Finally Picked Up A 2011 6.2

Well after my 06 vortec max went back as a lemon 2 years ago I decided to just drive a clunker until I decided another new truck was in order. I knew the only way i was buying a new silverado was if it had the 6.2, especially after having the vortec max. I started doing some searching last week and found exactly what i wanted right away and couldnt pass it up. Its a 2011 ltz with the 6.2 with most of the goodies. After only driving it for a few days i am honestly amazed at how much stronger this 6.2/6spd combo is, it just blows my vmax out of the water. After I get a few more miles on it I will take it down the track to see what it will do stock. My 06 stock in 50 degree weather went a best of 14.7@90 mph and know this truck will put a beating on that so i cant wait. I plan on doing a tune on it and from what ive seen the black bear is the way to go. Anyone know what kind of results are coming from the tune on the 2011s ? Glad to be part of the site again !!!!

Big congrats on the new truck. My previous truck was a Vmax too (Mine wasn't no lemon, flawless for more than 50,000 miles)... and the new truck would run circles around my old one.

What gears did you end up getting? I've the 3.73's with BB's tune and it will roast the tires on demand. LOVE IT. Can't wait to see your track results.

I ended up with the 3.42s. I had the 4.10s in my vmax and were great for towing, but if i wanted to go over 65 gas mileage was so so at best. I cant belive this truck stock, i put it in manual mode 1st gear and got on it just for a qucik second and it broke the tires loose like nothing. I cant wait for a tune, did you see any fuel mileage increase ? By the way thats a nice looking truck you have !!!

No mileage increase for me after the tune. The truck isn't lacking power so the tune was mostly for the transmission, the rest was a bonus. With my 3.73's I'm still getting a solid 13-14mpg mixed driving and 18mpg highway. You'll do a little better with the 3.42's. And thanks..

Congrats on the new buy. My 2011 Silverado LT excab w/6.2 is a beast and by adding hypertech max energy programer and CAI and replaced stock muffler with Magna flow performance muffler it will top out at 133mph and 0-60 is fast no T/Slips yet but it dust anything I have ran it against includding Dodge hemi PU and Toyota Tundra 5.7's forrds and Titans dont even try LOL. My milege is around 18-19.5 MPG as long as I keep my foot out of it and drive normal

Is the black bear a mail in or custom dyno tune only ? Also what do they charge for the tune ? txmuder have you ran a new f150 ecoboost yet ??

Congrats on your 6.2. I love mine, and as Stevens said, with the tune you can roast tires on demand. I wish there was a track around here to see would it would do in the 1/4 mile. While running 91 octane i see 13.3 mpg in town and anywhere from 16-20 on the highway depending on speed and wind. With E-85 im seeing 10 in town and not sure about highway.

I would recommend going with the autocal if you cant do an in person tune from Blackbear, you can read up about it in the Blackbear section on this sight.

Good luck with your new truck and hope it works out better for you then your old Vortec Max!!

You've got several options to choose from. Check out blackbearperformance.com for prices and options. My tune came from a tune meet. He takes his time to answer any and all questions, uploads the tune, adjusts to your requests then you go for a drive. While driving he's monitoring live data with a various conditions and makes ajustments accordingly for your truck. So it's a true custom tune for you. If you can find a meet close to you, thats a great option. The in person tune was only $250 I think which ever route you decide, something with data logging is important. That way the tune is adjusted for your truck in your local conditions :)

I've not even seen a new egoboost yet on the road to play with. Only thing I've whipped my "tail lights" with has been a Dodge hemi and a BMW X5 IS. The X5 is quick :)

Good deal i will check out the web site now. I know these aren't race trucks but i really missed having a quick truck and surprising people. Oh and whopping up on those slow dodges and fords lol !

Ran a ecoboost ford F150 SC a few days ago I believe. I think it was anyway, the front had the plate moved to the side and a open section on the front bumper for possible induction. But I did not stop him and ask but I got a good view of his front bumper BEHIND me as I pulled away from him LOL! This truck will run and I traded in a Tundra 2010 and thought it would run until I bought this one but not untill I installed the tunner and CAI did I really know how quick and fast it really was.post-101798-1316381741_thumb.jpg

Thats good to hear ! Any uggestions on a good intake system ? I just did an ebay one on my vmax.

I've done them on all my trucks through the years but I'm leaving this one alone. It does flow as much as the engine needs so there's not much point. I may someday drop in a K&N or similar type filter someday but thats about it for me. The gains are just so minimal, to me its just not worth it on the 6.2L
