Fog Lights

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and was brought here while looking for towing mirrors. While searching around I moved to a new topic. My truck is a 2005 GMC 2500HD. It is the Work Truck model and came without fog lights. I did some searching around on the forum but couldn't find what I was looking for. On the GMPartsDirect website I found Front driving fog lamps w/ factory control switch and harness Fog Light Link. The price seems real cheap and I am wondering if it is what I am looking for. Seems too good to be true. Can anybody help me out.

If this isn't what I need, can someone give me a link to a website that would have what I need.

You will need the air dam with the fog light holes cut out, or if you have yours, carefully trim them out. Other wise sounds good. You may already be wired for fog lights. Look and see if you have a purple and black wires (if I remember the color correctly) taped up @ where the lights go. If so you just really need the lights and switch and you'd be good to go..

I found a pink/light purple wire rolled up and taped near the headlight assembly on the drivers side. I was unable to find anything on the passengers side. However, I am going to order the kit and give it a try. For the price of it it is worth a shot. And by what it says it has everything I would need.

Just want to follow up. I purchased the fog light kit I have linked above from GMPartsDirect.com. I had a slight problem with it getting it shipped out. I ordered it and received an email that it would be shipped shortly. A week latter it still hadn't shipped so I emailed them inquiring about the progress. I received an email back saying that they would look into it and about an hour later I got an email that it had been shipped. Three days later (including Thanksgiving) it arrived. All the parts I needed were there.

I read over the directions and found them very detailed with a lot of pictures. I decided it would take me a few hours and a little help to get it done, so I waited to do it the next day. I started the project at about 2 in the afternoon and finished it about two hours later with the help of one other person. I'm very happy with GM Parts Direct with their responsiveness to my emails. I had also received an email from them with a code for a free gift and $5 off my purchase. I would definitely recommend this mod to anybody that wants to do factory fog lights in the GMT800, and if the 900s are done similarly, do it. I have wanted factory style fog lights since I got the truck, but I didn't think it could be done. Glad I found this website.

Fog lights and headlights

That's a good deal! My wife has a Honda CRV and the cheapest I can find to buy the fog light kit is $238.00. The dealer wants over $400.00 to do it. I should have convinced her to buy a GM SUV!

Can you check and tell me what actual bulb these light use? I just bought a 2011 Sierra w/fog lights and they are almost worthless. In researching I find they use a 5202/C4 24 watt bulb instead of a decent halogen. I am looking for some way to improve the lights or replace them. My Jeep and Challenger have very good fog lights that make the truck ones look sorry. The Jeep and Challenger use a 45 watt halogen bulb. I'm wondering if GM went to the cheaper all plastic fog light housing with the weak bulb at some point and before that they used the better unit.

According to AutoZone my fog light is 9145. I don't trust them completely so I am going to actually check them in the morning. I want to upgrade these bulbs that I have now anyway because of the HID headlights, it makes the current fog lights look weak and out of place. People have suggested to me to buy Silver Star, and if possible the Silver Star Ultra. They say they are brighter and have the more true white color than stock bulb.

Double checked the bulbs today and they are 9145s

Thanks. Now to figure out if those housings will fit the 2011. I know I would have to change the connectors.

Wouldn't it be easier to buy an upgraded bulb of the same style?

I did order an HID kit which may work fine. However the reason they went to low watt bulb is the cheap new plastic housing/reflector can't take the heat long term from the 9145 bulb. Some people are running a hotter bulb in these large housings and seem OK but cars have smaller housings which apparently melt within minutes of use.

not sure if you are aware of this or not, but that HID kit in your stock halogen headlight housings is illegal and blinding to other drivers. to be legal you need to get projector housings to properly focus the light of the HID bulbs.

Yeah i found that if you aim your headlights and fog's down more the less you will blind people. I aimed mine way down since i have a lift and still get lots of light on the road without anyone flashing me or blinding them.
