I have a 2011 gmc sierra see that I'm looking at putting a double din in. I would like a touch screen with navi. What size do I need? What is a good flush dash kit? Suggestions on what dd to get?

Thanks!

just add a factory unit

Because this is at least $1700.

I don't need back-up camera ready as I already have it in my rear-view mirror. Are there any special kits I need to get the factory steering wheel controls to work? Will my factory bluetooth still work?

7" screen is the size I need?

Honestly, you really should look at the Advent. I know it sounds like a pitch because we sell them, but I suggest it to everyone because it makes the most sense in that application.

Consider this: by the time you add the cost of any aftermarket unit (doesn't matter which one, they all need the same kit/harness/data adaptors/ steering wheel controls and we sell almost all of them too), then add the cost of the adaptors to whatever unit you choose, you're going to be well north of the Advent unit and not get much, if any, performance improvement, AND you'll lose XM radio, rear controls, possibly rear sensors and you'll still have different operation of factory functions.

Just sayin' the Advent unit has all the performance and doesn't force you to lose anything. You can also install it yourself: http://vimeo.com/29529451

Advent OGM1 is a factory style nav unit. there is no adapters or dash kits that you would need to buy separately. and it is cheaper than the aftermarkets and the OEM nav

Go with the Metra kit. That is the one I have in mine and I tried a couple of different brands...

PAC makes some good adapters to integrate the aftermarket unit to your truck and steering wheel controls.

A double din is a double din regardless of the screen size.....

I would agree that if you get a really good double din headunit and start adding features such as sat radio, bluetooth, Ipod integration, steering wheel controls etc, the price will be pushing the price of that Advent Unit. However, if you are planning on putting in nice aftermarket stereo (amps subs, etc) you will need a really good head unit as the foundation for that system. In that case I think a unit from pioneer or alpine would be better suited for the job. (Though I am not very familiar with the Advent unit, so no offense to those that are recommending that unit)

I priced out a $700 pioneer with sat radio, steering wheel adapter, and bluetooth adapter, and the price was about $1250. the Advent which utilizes the factory xm tuner, and includes all the adapters without added cost was $1000 shipped, at the time. the OEM unit was about $1700 with the GM lockpick that woulda been needed.

it has the same pe-amp output as any aftermarket unit, and has RCA outputs for subs and also if you want to power the door speakers with an amp. one thing i think that sets it apart from the others, as far as sound quality & versatility is the EQ controls:

what other aftermarket unit lets you adjust that many frequency ranges?

Have been doing the same research and the Advent looks like the way to go. I have read the Nav is not Garmin quality but you do ge free updates...thats not cheap with a garmin. I am installing a full system so aftermarket in my mind is the best option. If you think about it, the Advent is a security system in itself...who would steal a stock unit? Not saying it wouldnt happen but chances are greatly reduced. My truck does not have wheel controls but my research says they can be easily added. I am not sure about built in crossovers (correct me if I am wrong but I dont think it has them?) but I use my amps settings for that. I am impressed by the way it fits...does not look cheezy at all!

The EQ is definitely nice. I just wish you could it could be set independently for each input. In other words, xm has its own settings from FM, from the ipod, etc.

As for comparing against a pioneer or the alpine, I would tend to agree the interfaces are better on those in terms of features especially mapping. But I doubt sounds quality would be better although I cant say for sure since I could never do an a/b comparison - finding exact models locally that can actually be demoed is damn near impossible these days.

But I think the key to the advent is integration. The pioneers and alpines are meant to work with any vehicle while the advent is targeting a very specific range which makes it so plug and play. Walts video pretty much sums it up - it definitely the easiest I HU install I have ever done. And having the controls just work like that is awesome.

Are the pre-amps separated at full range and sub? And can you adjust the frequency range of those outputs separately?

Again I don't know much about it, I am just asking.

If you're asking if it has separate 4 channel stereo RCA outputs as well as a subwoofer output, it does. Subwoofer output is a mono RCA. It has separate subwoofer controls as well (on/off, crossover & level)

If you are looking for excellent, probably even better then what you can get here in North America, on ebay do a search for xtrons-usa, that is the ebay store they sell really good equipment for vehicles such as dvd players and gps systems for considerably cheap. I just bought from them again 4 time now and it is the nav system with DVD player, bluetooth, GPS compatible with cameras and digital tv, ties into DVD headrests for back seat, you name it it has it. They are based out of Hong Kong but only cost $350. Free shipping and fast shipping, I ordered it on Sunday today is Wednesday and it is delivered to my home. Definately worth looking at. Very easy plug and play sort of thing. Thought you would like to know I see the costs posted and I wouldn't say it is worth it compared to these.

    • Are you going to take long trips in it?  If so, try out the seats in the various trims. For me the lower trim level seats were not comfortable.
    • I have a 2016 that I bought new and still own. I'm around 129,000 miles now. The biggest problem was a transmission failure about 2 years ago around 95000 miles. No warning, just failed while driving down a back road. A reman GM transmission installed and it's been fine ever since. A few other minor problems along the way. I am in no hurry to replace it. It's been paid off long ago and do plan on driving this as long as I can.   I will admit I am leery about all the additional electronics in the newer models and feel that it is just more potential problems. I think there's actually more than I would have wanted in this 2016 but so far so good. I think even if something major like lifter failure happened, it would still be cheaper to at worst, drop a new engine in than buy a new vehicle.

You get awful sippy when people have different experiences than you do. You live a life. I’ve lived a life. It seems our experience has been different. You can point out generalized statistics. Some people learn how to thrive when the odds are against them. Living in different states does make a difference in a persons quality of life and economic outcomes and opportunities. That’s a fact Jack. It’s my truth, my life. Hard work and long hours the right environment made my families life easier. And yes moving to a different state increased the odds of that happening. Stats are generalized. People who thrive don’t make excuses. They beat the odds. Others get mad and point to those statistics. I guess that’s you. My post pointed out how you helped people beat the odds. Somehow your panties got in a wad. Go figure.
