Oem Overhead Console Garage Door Opener

Can anyone tell me if the GMT-900 Silverado OEM overhead garage door opener turns off when the ignition is turned off? I am trying to find the replacement console with the factory garage door opener for my '07. However, me and my wife rotate "joint custody" of our garage depending on who works the next day. I'm really not thrilled about my truck being outside with the opener programmed. I know I can lock my doors but we all know sometimes that doesn't matter. I was hoping it operates like the retained power window option or something like that, disabled after 10 min or when the doors open, etc. Anyone out there who can provide info on this?

I'd have to double check,but I'm pretty sure its hot all the time,key on or off.

Thanks for all the help. Maybe I need to rethink installing it. I sometimes leave my truck outside when I'm home and not home both. Not crazy about someone being able to break a window and get to my garage door opener and not be able to remove or deactivate it. Think I'll just replace the Sears remote instead. Thanks again!

Just run a new power wire to it off a keyed source.

I could all but promise that 99% of the smash and grab types will be too stupid to realize what the controls in the OHC do. Or, just deactivate the opener in the evening.

It's on all the time.

Honestly, that concept is a double edged sword. On my BMW, you need to have the key on for the opener to work, so you pull into the garage, and you need to keep the motor running to open/close the door. Not fond of idling the car in an enclosed space trying to get the door to open.

The days of an idling car in the garage being dangerous are all but finished. If the BMW is newer than a decade old, you won't ever hurt anyone by running it in there long enough to open the door. A few years back a woman in the next town over tired to do herself in by running a hose from the tailpipe to her car and all that happened was she fell asleep, ran out of fuel and woke up with a nasty headache.

True. I find it more of a PITA though. Pull in, turn it off, then realize the door didn't close (either didn't hold the button long enough, or just forgot to push), so you need to start it to make the opener work.

No need to start it in that case, key in on position, engine off. Same way you'd do power windows in some cars.

It's just a PITA with BMW with their keyfob that sticks in the dash, with the push button ignition.

Ahh of course, I forgot it'd likely have that. I hate keyless/fob type systems.

i think i would be safer with the panel and buttons then the generic opener clipped to my visor. everybody knows what it does. titnted windows make it hard to see though
