Broke ....

Noticed as I drove on the highway when my wheel was straight when I turned from the 12 o clock position to 3u I had no steering. Got under the truck noticed one of the arms was broken.. it wasn't welded to the frame it was like machined into the frame.. (sorry I don't know much about vehicles) here's a pic... ask? ? Away!!

obviously its broken, but take a picture further away im not even sure what i'm looking at here, obviously do not drive the truck in that condition. but need lots more pics

My mechanic told me it was the stabilizer arm ..when I go in tomorrow I will take more pictures. Sorry!

the part that broke is called the "stabilizer arm".. Dont know if u can tell in the first pic but it ripped the frame. My mechanic says that i need a new frame. Called statefarm to make a claim.. they called me back and said they will not cover it because its considered "mechanical damage" and there is no impact on the truck. (no damage to the body because i didnt hit anything, dont know how it even happened)..

I went to gm and showed them pictures of the truck, now they are sending out a GM rep to take a look at it next week.. Hopefully they will consider it a manufacters defect and cover the cost to replace the frame.. (i got quoted 3500 for a frame + install) something tells me not to get my hopes up because i always have bad luck and once the rep sees that the truck is lifted he will immeditally deny fixing it

So frusturated because i just bought the truck less than 2 months ago, no warranty because it was used and no 90 day warranty...

Dont know what else to do =/

If the truck has been lifted, there's not much chance that GM will do anything for you.

The truck being a used vehicle doesn't help. You may want to run a CarFax

on the truck and see if the U/C dealer bought it at auction. There may even be some history of prior damage on the report. If there is, go back and see the U/C dealer. You can bet that they ran a report on the vehicle before they bought it. If they sold it after knowing of something like this, you may have recourse, especially if it was involved in a front-end collision.

You really don't have any idea what the previous owner did with this vehicle. If it was used in heavy off-roading, anything can be expected.

My guess would be, that frame may have been cracked for some time before it finally broke like that. These days, no one in his right mind would accept the liability of welding that back together. Although, if it were MY truck, that's exactly what I would do. You may have a pretty hard time finding a professional frame shop that would do it though........

BTW...... what year is the vehicle and how many miles?

What some U/C dealers do is run the CarFax as soon as they see the vehicle at auction. The CarFax can show up clean, so they purchase the vehicle (although they know that it's wrecked), get it to a hack-shop and get it repaired and sell it before the CarFax is updated. Happens a lot. Insurance companies are supposed to report this stuff but sometimes it takes a long time.

I'm not in anyway saying that's what happened here.......... I'm just saying that it does happen and it's worth checking out.

It's been a couple of months, so I would run another CarFax and see if anything shows up.

Well it sounds like i need to run another carfax.. If i did and something came up such as it did get into an accident and the dealer told me that it had seen 0 accidents what could i do then?

If I had to guess, I'd guess that the previous owner may have been off-roading and hit something hard enough to mangle the front suspension pretty badly. He may have put it an insurance claim and they totaled the vehicle due to the crack in the frame. The vehicle went to auction, was bought, repaired, and sold before the report was updated.

The reason that I am making this wild speculation is because that frame didn't brake from hitting a pot-hole, curb or something. That takes a significant impact. Also, finding a lifted, '06 with under 50K in a U/C lot tells me that somethings not right. One has to wonder why some young guy would part with a gem that he obviously customized.

The CarFax report may give the name & address of the previous owner or at least the last GM dealership that it was in. Do a little detective work, make a few phone calls and I have a hunch that you may find out more than you care to.

Carfax will only show what's been reported to them...many things never get reported.

If it was my truck, I'd just take it to someone who's good at welding and have it fixed. I don't think your going to get anywhere with GM or the car fax. If you did, it would be a stroke of luck.

That being said, I've NEVER seen this on a lifted truck except for those that have been wheeled HARD. It must have been cracked and just reared its ugly head recently. Sorry about your luck brother, but I'd recommend fixing it and moving on.

And it would be a cold day in heck before I'd go replacing the frame.

Can't weld on this frame I just found out.. due to some different type of metal used .... that would be to easy of course... nothing is easy
