The part wasn't welded on. It was almost machined into the frame

Ok, then why can't a competent welder cut away the bad section and weld in a new one? Not arguing just sayin... I don't want someone trying to get rich of your bad luck, ya know. I assure you, your not the first this has happened to.

That frame can be welded on but cannot be heated during the welding procedure past a certain temperature. That's the tricky part.

 

Easy frame job, btw. I'd do that one at home, even.

 

That is the idler arm bracket, btw. Has nothing to do with the stabilizer bar.

A good welder should be able to fix you up really good and cheap, the welds will be stronger than the rest of the frame if the right guy does it.

 

I would also weld this myself, I may not weld for income but I feel good enoughin my welding to do it myself. Wouldnt weld it for someone else though.

They don't recommend weldling on these frames.. now welding might be a last resort if gm don't cover it

You're being lied to. Take it to a shop that knows what they're talking about. You CAN weld on these frames, just don't get them too hot.

Wonder how many man hours are spec'd out for a frame swap. I mean EVERYTHING is attached to the frame.

I feel as though they dont want anyone welding on the frame due to liability to GM. These frames can without a doubt be welded. Another thought is that any welding or heating of the frame will cause the rust proof coating to be damaged. If you are up for a frame swap then I have to say my hats off to you. I hope this all works out for you.

Well my mechanic has always steered me in the right direction and is a good friend.. he wouldn't lie.. he never said u could absolutely not weld on it.. I guess he just wants what's best for me and he believe a new frame will be the answer. Since Statefarm isn't going to cover it now we went to gm to see if we can get them to consider it as a manufactures defect .. he knows a guy at gm real well, he thinks he can make that work.. if not I have no idea what's next... no word on the carfax yet.

He said he and a buddy could replace the frame in prolly 6-7 days .. 70$ an hour. He told me out the door if it didn't get covered I would pay 3500for for everything out of pocket
