Anybody On Here With A '99 Silverado With The 255 Hp Lr4 Engine?

Hi,

I'm looking for somebody that has a Silverado truck with the 255 hp LR4 engine. I need a valid engine number from such an engine, if you do not want to give out the exact number you could just leave out the last digit in the running number part if you like.

Please contact me in this thread or via PM or e-mail:

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

Not 100 percent sure to be honest

But I think it's the VIN I'm looking for, I have a crate engine and because it has never been in a vehicle it has no numbers stamped into the block.

I need to have a valid number on there to be able to register my AC Cobra kit car and preferably I need the identity of the 255hp version. As far as I know it was only in 1999 it officially had 255hp, after that it got 275 or 285 if I recall correctly. If I cannot find the number for a 255 the number from a 275/285 would do fine as second best.

What is the build code? Is that the same as the casting number?

Also if somebody does not want to give out the complete number it's fine to leave out the last digit as it does not matter as long as I have the structure of the format and I could put in what ever digit there.

Cheers,

Thomas

Most states when you change an engine you have to go to the DMV and they issue you a number that you stamp into the engine. They kind of get upset when you have a vehicle that the engine has different VIN # than what the body has.

Here in Sweden there is nothing that says that the number on the engine must or must not match the number on the chassis. The term VIN does not exist either and you really don't even need a number on the engine itself.

The real reason I'm looking for this number is that a kit car here has a limit of how much power you can have in it. As I have a more powerful LS engine than allowed but it's only checked by the number on the engine I will try to get this number, put it on the engine and try my luck to get it registered

Had a quick look at my father in law's corvette and I couldn't even find the VIN marking on the engine :) Where is it supposed to be?

I had a look in the manual and it didn't specify where to find it, it did however specify that the engine code is the eighth character in the VIN. His VIN was 1G1YW3DWXA5108382, the eighth character from the start would be W.

So the VIN marking on the engine would it be exactly the same as the VIN found below the windscreen or is it different in any way?

Cheers,

Thomas
