Best Place For Collision Repair?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was involved in a hit and run accident yesterday where a driver side-swept into the side of my Sierra and took off. The rear quarter panel has to be replaced at the very minimum. The sheet metal on the extended cab door and passenger door might need to be replaced as well. It also looks like the leaf springs got knocked apart.

Where is the best place to get it fixed? Does GM certify body repair shops? Are there any official GM body repair shops? I'd like to use all original parts and get it to factory condition.

Thanks!

I've found the most likely way to get factory parts is to have your dealership do the body work. That said, I've had work done at the insurance company's preferred body shop, which was a general collision center not associated with a dealership, and they did good work. I wasn't so particular about that vehicle, but as far as I was concerned as long as it looked visually fine, it didn't matter if the parts were aftermarket or factory.

With that said, if you want OE and your filling it on insurance. Your probably gonna get pissed I always have. Dealer quote is always higher, they price OE or at least the do in my area.

Me personally, I use a local guy on my stuff, he has his own shop. And is just as picky as I am about things.

I'd go with a salvage yard rear fender (or complete bed) and if I had to skin the door an OE skin. New springs both sides (and a VERY careful inspection if it did mess up the spring there is probably more lurking underneath).....
