Difference-4.8 Vs 5.3

This is one of those "Just curious" topics........

My understanding (which may be wrong) is that the only difference between a 4.8 and 5.3 is the stroke........... If that understanding is correct, has anyone changed the crank and rods to increase a 4.8 to a 5.3?

Sounds way too simple.........

The difference in stroke is only about 9-10mm, the bore is the same.

The 4.8 uses long rods, the 5.3 uses short rods. The 4.8 also has flat top pistons, the 5.3 are dished.

You would also need a different crank and properly balanced cam shaft if you were building a 4.8 to be a 5.3.....It would cost some money.

Thanks...... have no intentions (at the moment). I'm quite happy with the 4.8. I was just wondering.

If it ever came to rebuild time, I think that I might consider it. However, I think that I may just move to a 2010 2500, crewcab, 6.2, 6spd before that.

With my current trailer, the 4.8 is a perfect match.

They don't offer the 6.2 in the 2500 (yet). Maybe you meant the 6.0, or the 1500 NHT pkg?
