Lc9 Engine

I am considering buying a 2011 GMC Sierra SLT Ext Cab and noticed that engine code is LC9 which is an aluminum block. My 2011 Sierra SLE std. cab, short box has the LMG cast iron block. What determines which engine goes into these vehicles? Are there any issues with durability, etc. with one vs the other? Thanks, Dave

I haven't looked into the newer trucks much but I think the all aluminum eng. Is the 6.2?

Build sheet shows 5.3L, V-8, Flex Fuel as SFI - LC9. Decoding the VIN also shows this 5.3L as LC9. Dave

I thought almost all trucks now had the aluminum block. Mine does. Is the current truck a 2WD?

 

 

You won't experience any issues related to the block material. The engines themselves are practically bulletproof.

No, current truck is 4WD. I checked with the dealer and found that standard cab trucks are only ones that have cast iron block.
