Whats a Vortec engine?

this is straight off the wikipedia web site.

Vortec is a trademarked name for a line of piston engines for General Motors trucks. The name first appeared in 1988 on a 4.3 L V6 that used "vortex technology" to create a vortex inside the combustion chamber, creating a better air/fuel mix. Now its used on a wide range of different engines. Modern Vortec engines are named for their approximate displacement in cubic centimeters.

Doesn't it signify their move from throttle body injection to multipoint fuel injection.

the change happened at the same time.

The 'new' Vortec had a roller cam, port fuel injection, and the 'Vortec' heads.

I can't find a pic I'd taken a while back of the intake ports of a TBI head and a Vortec side-by-each, but it shows how the intake port was slightly offset and angled so the air charge entered along the side of the valve and I suppose 'swirled' past the valve rather than dump against the back of the valve.

If you google a bit, you'll find all sorts of flow rates for the L31 Vortec heads compared to the various other small block heads.

The throttle body injected engines are vortec motors too.

Vortec...means bad @$$ motors... :nonod:

Had Sonoma (4.3L), never let me down, except when I needed more towing capacity (upsized travel trailer).

Have Sierra, ~90k miles, cant't pay me enough to trade it in.

That's good enough for me.
