Amp Wire Help

i had a stereo shop install an amp to my 4 door speakers, the installed the main wire to the wrong fuse under the hood. long story short the amp stays on when the car is off and keys are out, so my battery dies over night. so its attached to a fuse that is live all the time im assuming. what i need to know is, what fuse could i move the wire to so that the stereo head unit still plays music when the keys are out, and the doors are shut, along with turning the amp off when the doors open and keys are out. kinda alot of info, ill elaborate if needed

are you using an aftermarket or factory head unit?

 

is there a reason you wouldn't take it back to that shop to have it fixed?

what fuse is it connected to? check your amp and make sure you dont have a lose wire from your power wire hitting the remote wire. i had just 1 lose piece of wire and thats all it took.

im still using the stock head unit. its connected to the radio 15 amp fuse right now, but when i shut the car off, the amp stays on

So the amps (+) supply is behind a 15 AMP fuse? How big is the amplifier? That is a pretty low limit. Divide the number of watts the amplifier is rated to by 14 volts (12 when on battery) and it will tell you the (theoretical) max current in AMPs. If it is even a modest size unit you may blow the fuse.

 

OR, do you mean to say the (+) remote switch lead (not supply) is wire to the wrong spot? Hopefully that is the case and they ran a dedicated supply lead to the battery with its own fuse. If that is the case, this might help:

But I have the same question as jdubya, why not bring it back to the installers? I would definitely say that this is an "improper" install and they should cover it.

correct its the remote switch lead, its a 500watt amp. i haven't taken it back because it looks like a simple fix of just using another fuse.

I think you actually need to hook up the wire that turns the amp on. There is a trigger wire that tells the amp to turn on, when the radio is turned on. When the radio is turned off, that trigger wire is turned off, turning off the amp.

Does the OEM radio have remote amp lead? I never looked into it before swapping the head unit but I assumed it did not (I had the non-bose so the truck didnt have an OEM amp). If it does that would definitely be the way to go.
