Why No 6.2's On Dealer Lots?

I searched for a new 2011 6.2 liter 4X4 crew cab Silverado with the 3.73 gears and the closest one I found was in Colorado!

I found any truck on a lot with the 6.2 also had every available option. Thus very expensive. I just ordered mine with what I wanted. I didn't have to settle for almost what I wanted. Ended up being very reasonably priced. I really like the truck.

Oh, and being from Calgary, it is the truck capital of the world. Sorry Houston...I have daughters there. Houston is the BMW capital. That is where I go to buy good used BMWs and tow them back here with my 6.2!

so wait....if I was to order a 2012 6.2 or Duramax with the options just the way I want em, I could get the same incentives they are currently running on the '11 models (Red Tag through 1/3/12, 0%, yada yada)?

If so, thats something I was never aware of and a pretty good deal. Almost makes sense to use the equity I have built up in my current truck and get something new to hold me off until '15 or '16 when the new models have been out for a few years.

No, you get the Incentives that are current at the time of delivery.

Damn, and I doubt with all of the upcoming holidays delivery would be possible by 1/3/12. Maybe should wait until the same offers start appearing later in '12.

I struggled with this too. Ordering your very own vehicle is lots of fun and you literally get exactly what you want, but you're rolling the dice with respect to incentives. The end-of-year rebates on the '11s were too good for me to pass up, but it definitely took a little work to find my 6.2.

I always thought that the price was fixed when you order the truck. So any current incentives, rebates etc would be applied when ordering. That is the way it was when I ordered. Or am I missing something? I would hate to order and then find out all incentives ran out before the truck was delivered and I would have to pay more. I would think that would make for many unhappy customers.

No, incentives are always applied at delivery. If you order a truck while they're offering $5000 off, for example, but they expire by the time the truck arrives, you're SOL. The negotiated price that you come up with at ordering time reflects the price before any applicable incentives. So you can make a deal on a vehicle for, say, $300 over invoice, then subtract any factory rebates when it actually arrives.

Correct

When I ordered mine, we sat down and negotiated the trade in value of my truck, then the dealership took off what they would from the MSRP price and figured in the current incentives to come up with a bottom line price. If the incentives changed, well... I had the choice of taking the vehicle or leaving it for the lot. In the end, for me... the deal was better at the time of delivery than it was when we previously negotiated the prices. I made it clear up front if the big rebates went away, so did I.

Some dealers won't make you put a deposit down and as long as your not ordering something goofy, don't have a problem making an order. I'd talk to your dealership and see how they take orders.

My truck only took 4 weeks, so the incentives were the same at delivery as order date. Depending on what you order and what plant it's assembled could affect the amount of time it takes to deliver. My truck was ordered as a sold unit so it received preference over stock orders. Was assembled in Indiana and shipped to PA so it didn't take long to get here.

Incentives are offered at delivery not when you order, so you risk a change in whats offered. Could work in your benefit, or not no guarantee.

I guess it is different in Canada. Incentives were applied upfront when I ordered. Truck came in and I wrote a cheque for the agreed amount.

Incentives are announced with end dates. Whether they get extended, increased, or decreased, is up to GM. I hear that even dealers don't find out until the day of or day before.

The system is not set up for people to "lock in" pricing when they order cars. If you think about it, this makes sense for the manufacturer; incentives exist to sell inventory, which usually means vehicles sitting on car lots. People who order cars aren't interested in buying what the dealer has, so there isn't as much reason for GM to offer them incentives.

Suburban and Yukon 2500's don't have 6.2's.

I had a dealer (whos search is better than the Chevy and GMC web sites) confirm there were two 2011 Red Suburban 2500s within 1000 miles. I ended up buying one of them, dealer trade 340 miles away. Talk to a salesmen to try to find one.

Or order a 2012. Order incentives are the same as on the dealer lot. You just cannot order a 2011 model any more.
