Drive shaft clunk

Had mine re-greased this morning only took 1 hour 15 min. not bad. I asked have they had anyone come back with the clunking again and they said very few. I then asked what happens if it does come back and they told me they would replace the drive shaft with a one that has nickle plated splines. They said that the splines on the trans and the rear diff are nickle plated and when you add the nickle plated splines on the drive shaft it creates it own bond that self lubricates it's self. Interesting.......

fyi Hope its not 4 wheel drive? Not supposed to grease spines on 4 wheel drive. There nothing to stop the grease from being forced into the transfer case and contaminating the fluid in there. Every GM dealer knows or should know the grease is only to be used on 2 wheel trucks, 4x4 truck you must use ATF.

There is a TSB on this forum the explains it.

I've read MANY posts on this.....some say grease should not contaminate the fluid..... I would like to hear from someone that has done this and had it get to the transfer case and cause problems! I'm ready to do my '06

What does it matter that it's a 4x4?..........It is OK to grease the splines if you are having this problem. You just need to make sure you use the proper grease so you don't contaminate the fluid. You would want to use a high temperature, high performance grease, not a "regular" moly-synthetic because that will coat the plates. Where you got your information from i don't know but it's incorrect.

All dealers know what grease they need to use, GM Part # 12345879 (GM Performance Parts high Temp. Grease)
