2001 Bravada evap question

I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Bravada. I have an error code p0440, i understand that its an evap code and the steps on what i should check. however a slim wallet keeps me from doing things before i can narrow the problem down better and i have never had an evap problem before.

The truck has had this code for about a year now, it ran just fine so i kept putting it off.at first i assumed it was the egr valve, beings i bought this truck from my father and i had to replace and clean the lines for it before.

about 2 weeks ago the truck ran out of gas on my way to the gas station and the check engine light went out itself, i put a gallon in and went to the station and filled it as much as it could take. about three later (also not much driving those days), the engine light appeared.

my main question is since the check engine light was out due to the empty tank could that narrow my search a little.

i'm only asking because i am very short on cash, the inspection is due, the truck is used often beings its the only vehicle for a family of 7 and i don't have allot of time to have it out of service.

or was that just a fluke and the stall just cleared the computer and started over.

its not your egr valve and yes its a fluke about the light ,..

just drive it ,,but as for your inspection, you will HAVE to budget for the repair or park it ,till funds are found,,

you cant afford to throw parts at it and need to take it in when the above is done

hope its not a bad hit for ya Steve
