i drove 2 winters with heavily chopped and bald general ameritraks..no problems, if i got any sign of trouble the g80 got me out..but that was with 500 pounds of sand in the bed, since i got my grabber at2s i don;t even have any trouble(i don't even carry sand in the bed anymore)

a set of good all terrains will do fine, i had bf goodwrench all terrains on my old beater s-10 and i used 4x4 3 times in the course of having it for 4 years, good tires play a big part of not getting stuck but another big factor is driving skills

What he said.

Used to live in Alaska & never had studs or winter tires. Had the stock Bridgestone Dueler's, they worked great even when the tread was low. Of course mine is also 4wd so that's also a factor. Good ATs will get you around just fine.

I bought a set of General Altimax studded winter tires. Go to tirerack.com and you can find what will fit your truck. We have Blizzak non studded tires on the Jeep SRT because of limited options for the vehicle. Our weather in the winter ends up being wet ice on the roads many days. Snow and ice below 20F does not bother me but on wet ice at 32F - all season tires are worthless!

I haven't had them for a winter yet but have talked to people that have and they are very happy with the Cooper Discoverer A/T3. They are also the top rated all terrain tire by Consumer Report and had an excellent score for snow. A few people I have talked to use them for plowing and are very happy with them.

On that note, I had on my old truck regular road tires that were half worn out and had no trouble if I had weight in the back or had it in four wheel drive

I have the Goodyear Duratracs. I am currently in Anchorage Alaska. I have not had any issues to date with these tires. We have already received over 2 feet of snow this past month. Even on ice and hard packed snow these tires have done terrific. I currently have not put studs in, but they have the holes for them if I choose to down the road. Also, I have zero extra weight in the bed of the truck.

thanks for all the input guys. I'm not needing tires just yet since I have a service van now I can use. I have a set of duratracs on my service van now, so I will see how they handle, aggressive looking tire with sipes for thos icier conditions I can run into. if they are decent on the van, I'll be picking a set up for my Sierra.

Thanks again
