TPMS RELEARN

O.k. I have done the reset according to the owners manual with no luck. Started with dr front, pass front, pass rear to dr rear with no luck. I let air out for as high as 30 seconds with no horn chirp. Even went to the others letting out air with no chirp. Now i have no readings at all on my D.I.C.

At this point I'm open to any suggestions, short of having to go to dealer.

Thanks for any answers

Went thru the same aggravation with my '07. I ended up having the dealer fix it, because I had to bring it in for brake pulsation & rattles/squeaks that they were never able to properly fix. They set the tire positions with their $2,000 Tech 2 scan tool, & after that, I was able to finally have success in programming a new set of wheels last year. But this whole process just got aggravating (besides the fact that I don't want it to lock me out again - who knows what GM programs these things to do ...), so I set it for those summer wheels & just leave the warning light on all winter. Problem solved. Just have to remember that my front right is now my rear left, etc. Stupid system. Should give us a choice whether we want it or not instead of mandating the system on every vehicle, but I digress ...

iI just purchased , a spx- kent moore tool el-50448 tpms activation tool , that they say will work on all gm tmps sensors to reset them. it was $63.00.just have not tried it yet. they told me it will work on all silverados 2007-2012

I just installed a winter tire/wheel (w/aftermarket TPMS senors) setup on my 2011 Sierra. I was concerned that it wouldn't program with the "letting air out" routine but it worked perfectly. It did take longer for the horn chirp than I expected. I aired all the tires up to about 40 PSI before I started. After the procedure was complete, I still had more than 35 PSI in each tire.

I have read all posts here and while I agree the Relearn tool is more convenient the delta-p method is much cheaper! Shame on Chevrolet for trying to make a buck of a new Truck owner! Besides the Equinox will relearn by itself, without a relearn tool!

Anyway I tried the 2 second rule and it did not work for me. I have a compressor so I was able to play around a bit.

I realized that the tire sensors must be in sleep mode so I let the truck sit for about 20 minutes to be sure they had started snoozing.

I then set the TPMS in Tire Learn mode in the cockpit. Then I tried the 2 second rule to no avail. I added another 2 seconds to see it work.

The next tire was about the same 3 to 4 seconds.

I checked the readout to see that about 5 lbs of pressure was let out of the tires.

So I would offer these two requirements when doing the delta-p method.

1st make sure your vehicle has rested (Tires also) for about 10 to 20 minutes to be sure the sensors have timed out or gone to sleep.

2nd The 2 second rule should be the 5lb rule. 2 secs is an estimation but without taking out the valve stem it takes 3 to 4 seconds to let out 5lbs...

Hope this helps!

I bought the Kent Moore SPX EL-50448 for less than $90. I have 3 sets of wheels for my truck so it makes sense to me. I can relearn all 4 wheels in less than a minute. My shop will do it for free but they are 20 minutes away and letting air out never worked for me. Even if letting air out worked for me, I'm not fooling around with airing down/airing up. Less then $90 is cheap in the long run to have the convience of doing it quickly and easily for a vehicle that cost what it does.

Of just make it autolearn like other manufacturers do - but I got beat up for suggesting that in another thread!

I'd rather not have the system at all. It's just one more aggravation in addition to many others. Am I the only one who checks my tires with a gauge? I mean wtf - we need a light to tell us our tires are low??? Boy we are in bad shape as a society ....

Theoretically speaking, with the money they would save by NOT installing this system, they could have built a front differential bearing - and ball joints - that actually make it past the 40k mile mark. But I know that's too much to ask - the truck was only a measly $32,000 ... :banghead:

When I worked for a chevrolet dealer in my area this is what we used believe it or not, much quicker than using tech II. Just put the vehicle in re-learn mode, hold the tool on the tire next to the stem and push the button. Also note that if you have some other type of signal device, I.e scanner or cell phone close to you when you are relearning with the tool it may not relearn properly and you'll have to restart. Sometimes I'd have to pull out of the shop so I could get away from any interference.

Another government mandate -this one attempting to protect people too stupid to check their tire pressure. Since products including vehicles are built to a price point, for every mandated addition, something else is cheapened, removed or the price goes up. Now I see in 2014 that backup cameras will be mandated.
