Dodged a bullet

I took my wifes car (2000 Dodge Intrepid ES) to the car wash Christmas day and unlike my truck... it does go thru the car washes with the "brushes". It was the "Ultimate" wash with under carriage and extra stuff. Well the under carriage spray was pretty hard... and really didn't give it much thought.

On the way home, the car shut off when coming to a stop, and I noticed the speedo was dead too. Then once I started it, I only had second gear and reverse. It wouldn't shift. So... I figured something go wet. So I left it outside to drive, and tried it with no luck, the trans wasn't shifting.

So I go online and did some forum searches and internet search's for possible issues and came up with a "Output speed sensor" issue that sounded just like my issue. $24 bucks later, and about 10 minutes time the cars back up and running like a champ. I certainly didn't want to spend money on the transmission and glad I didn't. The internet is awesome

i generally like to wash my own vehicle(ill wait til spring to hose the salt off) as car washes are built to be a one size fits all and i don't enjoy seeing that soap got sprayed into my engine bay via the wheel wells

To be honest, I shouldn't say much because I would love to get rid of my GF's current '04 Jeep GC and put her in a brand new Jeep GC but I couldn't, and she CERTAINLY can't, afford it as well. One big difference though is that she's a GF not my wife lol.

Haha I can't say much either. I've had two brand new Trucks, and my Finance' has never had a brand new vehicle. She has an 09 Subaru Legacy right now that I really don't care for. I'm trying to talk her into a new Equinox, but she doesn't want a higher payment.

My wife got the brand new 06 Chev Uplander that we ordered for her  .

Now I got the brand new truck in 2010, so I think we are still good for a while before the wife needs a something else.

Now if you'd just stop being such a cheap a$$ and buy her a new vehicle......... LOL!!

 I'd love to buy her a new vehicle, but she actually likes this car... and who am i to complain. It gets 22-23 intown and 30 highway and it's paid for. Besides, when the trucks paid for, she gets the next new vehicle so she's willing to be patient.

It's actually a very nice car.

Oh and I just had to replace the drivers door lock actuator. Pretty easy job. New they are $150, salvage yard, $35. I got lucky and a local yard had one. So I dodged two bullets this week...

I know. Mine loves her "Little Jeep Jeep" too but after driving my truck a few times, she has the itch to have something new, just can't swing a payment right now. Too many other things going on.

Glad your other vehicle of the family LIKES you at least. That damn Jeep of her's HATES me! Example #1, everytime, no I repeat, EVERYTIME I pick that damn thing up on the hoist for an oil change, there's another $100 minimum repair found that is needed. Example #2, I've literally replaced 100's, if not thousands, of axle pinion seals in my life and never, I repeat NEVER had a comeback. I mean, it's a seal, not rocket science. I replace the one on this thing, and it leaks WORSE. Really?!?!? HTF is that possible?? Uggh.

Oh wait, now I get it............ DODGEd a bullet. HA! Funny man you are! :rollin:

What year and size engine in the Intrepid? The 2.7 or 2.8L (can't remember which?) Is known for having bad oil sludge issues. 3000 mile oil changes is a MUST! That being said, I always did like the last design they had for the Intrepid. Thought it was pretty spiffy.
