rkf63k10 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 What scan tool do you guys recommend for the average DIYer? I've looked at several handheld and software types and I'm not sure what to go with? I would love to have one in the tool box.
fishbones182 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 this is what i use Item # 98614 Manufacturer: Cen-Tech its sold by harbor freight got it off of ebay for 30 bucks shipped reads tranny codes, live data works great i use it alot. Ive helped all of my neighbors with it at some point. Seems they all come here when they have car trouble.
[email protected] Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 fishbones182: Does your harbor freight scan tool read more than emissions codes. I am also looking for a scan tool, but I want something that will read the BCM, Transmission, ABS, Transfer Case, etc... and also be within my budget
MikeNH Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 To read those codes you'll be spending several hundred dollars. The cheaper ones can't do those. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Squirrely Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 I'm looking for the same thing. But I'm leaning toward the laptop and software. I use a Dell XPS, 4 gigs of ram hyperthreaded. Any recommendations?? I'd like to keep it under $200 if at all possible and still have a quality product. Same as the OP, I'm just a DIY dude.... I
BlackZ71Silverado Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Not going to get one for all that stuff for under $200.00.
cindy.auto Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Hello all, So we're getting closer to paying the CX-7 off and we recently got a Check Engine Light, TCS OFF and loss-of-traction light. I checked under the hood, reset the computer and re-checked the gas cap and the lights went away. But it had me thinking - a scanning tool may be a great investment to have as we head into the future with this thing. Especially when we've got concerns of VVT/timing chain related noise that has started up in the past 4 months. BESIDES Dashhawk, Ultra-Gauge, do you guys know anything about OBD2 scan tools? I can get a cheap code reader for $190 on obd2tool but i'd like something that can also display other scanning definitions like fuel pressure, oil pressure, etc. Thoughts?
