NAV system

Hello,

I have just purached a 2009 GMC Sierra SLE crew cab. It has XM and is non-Bose (at least I am pretty sure it doesn't have Bose). It has the stock radio in it.

I've seen all the threads on here about the Advent OGM1.....it is a mighty impressive looking unit. How does this thing compare with the the actual GM OEM Nav unit? Also, how is the display on this radio for XM stations compared to a simple stock radio in my truck? I really don't think I'd use navigation all that much, but love the look of the large screen......just have to decide between OGM1 and OEM.

Also, on the OGM1, do the buttoms' illumination match the illumination of the other items on the dash?

What does the OGM roughly run in price?

Thanks in advance!

I would say the illumination is about a 95% match. It is not exact in my eyes but I am pretty anal but this kind of stuff. The casual observer would probably never notice.

The display for XM is better then my OEM Non-bose because it can use more of the screen but I barely remember the stock radio XM.

If you are thinking OEM Nav, I am pretty sure you are going to need to get the bose amp as well, no? (or some other kind of amp)

I haven't actually used the OEM unit, so I can't compare the two. I can say that Advent Navigation is less than stellar: it has a tendency to hang the unit, which requires the ignition to be turned off and the truck restarted to get it working again. It is not good at selecting the best routes and it doesn't give you a way to view the route after it's chosen. Viewing the route Turn-by-turn is a tedious way to see what roads were selected. Most other features are good; however, music played from a USB drive doesn't give the artist and year info like it should. The same music played on my wife's factory radio does shows song title, artist and year. Hopefully, all of these things will be taken care of with updated software.

How is the radio itself? Better sounding that the stock radio? Anyone have any pictures of what this thing looks like at night? Also, is it true that not all the steering wheel controls work the same after installing one of these? And is the on-board bluetooth then disabled by swapping out the stock radio?

Also....how is the XM display while listening to sports broadcasts? I like how on the stock radio it shows the current score and quarter of the game being aired. I assume the OGM-1 displays all of this same information on screen at once while listening.

If you check out the link I posted in my first reply you will see the photos and videos that will probably answer the questions you are asking.

It does answer quite a bit. But how does the sound compare? I've read some reviews that said news and sports broadcasts are sketchy sometimes with this (maybe fixed with a firmware update). I listen to a lot of sports talk so this is important to me.

The OGM-1 sounds far better than the stock radio that came in my 2012...

x2, but in my 2011 ;) I can promise you from experience that this thing is hands down better than any other aftermarket unit. Less adaptors = less problems. In my mind it was worth every dollar.
