Gas Cap 08 Sierra

Ok maybe you guys can help me out. Over the last month I have been getting the Check Engine Light and message in the DIC to tighten gas cap. Had the code reset and got a new GM gas cap and yet again today I got the light for loose gas cap.. What else must i check?

a pluged vent tube? or somthing to do with the venting or fuel return system is my guess.

get it scanned and diag'd,you have a leak in the evap system

Anyone have any ideas where to look? I tightened all the connections around the filler neck. I am out of warranty but is this covered because it is a emmissions equipment?

It may be covered. Read your warranty book, where it talks about emissions equipment warranty, and it should show you what is and is not covered under the extended emissions warranty. Some components are covered longer than others, but be sure to take the book to the dealer with you when you take it in, so there is no confusion.

When I had my CEL issue with the p0449 code, I occassionally would also get the "tighten gas cap" message. After replacing the cracked and bulging evap canister I have not seen the gas cap message since. I still have the same gas cap, no issues.

You may need a NEW gas cap....I had that problem with my Cobalt. Code was cleared and it was reoccuring, new cap fixed it.
