transmission swap

i think most gm transmissions are interchangeable you could put a th400 int a 95 z71 if you wanted to.th400 are from the 80's era first was the 700r4 the th350 then the bullet proof th400 which is my all time favorite.so the issue isnt necessarily whether it will mount as much as if it will handle the torque of the engine.because if the transmission cannot take the power might as well not even look to see if it will mount up right.so before you search to see if it will mount check to see the torque rating.there should be a chart online that can tell you.but you can never have too much of a strong transmission thats why i like the 400.i know for a fact the 700r4 the 350 and 400 can all be swapped with a smooth mount. :chevrolet:

Instead of telling you what "I think" I will tell you what I KNOW.

The transmission from a 4.3L will not work directly. The bell housing, torque converter and pump are different, but can be swapped.

It is possible to use that transmission, but it really wouldn't be worth the hassle and cost.

why noy 4l65e or 70e, I think they are direct fit...

they are a direct fit and they would be EXCELLENT choices to put in his truck. They both are the exact same transmission he has but with a few internal upgrades, none of which would require any changes to the tune in the truck etc. - it's a direct bolt in application.

From the OP's last response it seems he doesn't necessarily need anything special, your best bet is to just have the transmission rebuilt and keep rolling along with it. If you got 17x,xxx miles from the original transmission then you obviously weren't too rough on it.

Too bad you cant swap a 6L80 into the 800s. I envy my wife and her 6spd tahoe.

I don't think you can swap into the 900s, let alone the 800s...

Yeah, its a shame. Unless the truck came with one already, you really cant get a 6 speed.

it can be converted into an older GMT900 ;)

it can be put in to any year truck if you really want to get custom, I've had my hands in a GMT400 (87 model) that had a 5.3L/ 4L60e swap - so anything is possible.

hat kind of swap is mostly metal fab and wiring. The 6L80 requires a whole new TCM and massive interior modification on your column, cluster, dash panels, and wiring. I guess it sounds easier to someone used to interior modifications that it does to someone like me that is more comfortable with metal fabrication (but not body work).
