Help with p0446 p0496 codes

I have a '05 Tahoe. I noticed a strong gas smell in the car. seems to be tward the rear. I have p0446 p0496 codes. it is sometimes difficult to first start up.

From what i have read it may be an issue with the EVAP canister vent valve or EVAP purge valve located on the intake manifold.

I thought I would first replace the EVAP purge valve since it is low cost and easy to change.

I can't find the one that I have. All the ones I see on the web and at the Autozone are not the same.

I am not sure where to find one.

i may not even be the EVAP purge valve anyway.

Any ideas?

Holy dusty engine batman...is that a pic of your engine...or mine...lol!

EVAP purge sounds pretty logical but I'm only a novice on these systems (that's on a good day.)

Hard starts could be a fuel problem, get a test gauge and see where your pressure is from the pump. Also I've read people had problems with their fuel pressure regulator as well. Do a search for the codes you have and there is a wealth of ideas/suggestions for you. Sorry I can't be more help. Good luck and happy reading!

Lol, yes dusty.

Not sure if the purge would cause it to smell like gas toward the rear of the vehicle? But it is easy to change if I only could find one.

Put a lot into it this year and just trying to keep it going while not breaking the bank.

The '05 Tahoe has around 145K miles. I use it for the winter in MI and to haul around my 180LB dog lol.

I am in sales and drive it a lot. The mileage is killing me but I really like the vehicle. I am 6'6" and 270LB so I fit in it nice. I have a 95 Fleetwood that I got a few years back with 30K miles...a nice ride to put miles on cheap. I have my old '76 455 TA for fun, had that since I was 19.
