05 silverado trans fluid question

Iam having my transmission serviced on my used 05 silverado 4wd 5.3 this tues. the 14th. Just having the pan dropped and filter and gasket changed. I believe the manual calls for dextron 111. But I have also heard that dextron v1 would be a better fluid to add then putting dextron 111 back into it. The trans service center said they usually just put dextron 111 back in on the 05. He also said he could put in synthetic for just a few more dollars. ( not having the unit flushed by machine, will mixing syn with dextron 111 be ok) Any input on this would be great.

You can go with Dexron VI it is backward compatible and will work just fine and is a better grade fluid than the old Dexron III. Mixing will not be an issue. You just would not get the complete benefit of running 100% Dexron VI.

There is no officially licensed Dexron III still being made. Anything you see with that label is an approximation.

I used the dex 5 in mine without a problem, actually did the change twice to get it almost all changed out

I think you mean Dex6 (VI).

Dexron 6, put it in my 2001 sunfire and it runs smooth...

Well to get it all changed out you would have had to have disconnected lines, just dropping pan would be dilution.

yes Dex 6, roman numerals. I did a change and then drove it for a few thousand and then did it again, I think its probably changed over by now, if not well they are compabitable.
