2000 Chevy Tahoe Fuel Gauge??

My wifes 2000 chevy tahoe's Fuel gauge keeps sticking and reading innaccurate. When it gets below or around a quarter tank of fuel sometimes it reads empty then a minute later it will read a quarter tank. Is there anything i can do to fix this or any suggestions? Shes ripping into me about it and i just want that headache gone lol. Thanks

You can try running a few tanks of fuel with Chevron Techron Concentrate added. Sometimes there is a build-up of deposits on the sending unit, especially now with ethanol added fuels. I usually recommend dumping 2 of the smaller bottles (12 oz I believe) into the tank. They are good for about 15 gals. each. Most of us have about 26 gal tanks. See if a couple tanks clears this problem up. Next solution is fuel pump/sending unit replacement

I had a similar problem for a while and replacing the fuel pump/sending unit is what worked for me. I would also clean and check the wires on your fuel pump first. It's a pain dropping the tank to get to it.
