Fitting an 8' x 4' in a 2011 or 2012 Suburban

Hello,

Heard a lot of horror stories about people not been able to fit an 8' x 4' sheet (plywood, drywall) on a late model Suburban's bed. Obviously, third row seats will be removed, and second row seats folded.

This, and my been able to transport 2 dog kennels and a mountain bike will close the deal for me.

Thanks for your comments.

I saw a few of your other posts regarding suburban bed lengths. I would measure all your gear then go to the dealership with a tape measure and pull the measurements yourself, then you know for sure what will fit.

Also while you're there I would take a look into the Avalanches. The folding midgate is pretty handy. A friend of mine has an 02 and he was hauling lots of lumber when he gutted his house. The bikes would probably fit in the bed pretty well and the back seat would hold the kennel after they're folded down.

That's my $.02.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, that would be the most sensible thing to do; unfortunately, I'm currently located overseas, and the local Chevy dealers don't usually carry Suburbans -- those are direct orders.

I would either rent one for the day, or locate a dealer that is willing to let you have test drive, on your own, and go home and try it. Used car lots are another option for test fitting cargo.

I had a 2002 suburban. 2nd row tipped into the floor, third row out. 4 x 8 fit flat on the floor. great set up.

2007 Suburban, third row out, second row tumbles forward against the front seats. The floor is now 8 inches too short. To get an 8 footer in you have to fold the second row seat backs down and not tumble. The floor is not not flat, but long enough to accommodate a crooked 4 x 8. Dumb design.

+1, dumb design. Up to '07 models you had 8 ft of flat floor with 3rd seat out and 2nd row folded. '07 on you have to tumble the 2nd row. This eats up space and leaves a void in the floor. That is why I bought an 09 CC and kept my '90 GMC sub for the 8 ft of flat covered space when I need it. Be careful on the Avalanches. I have heard reports of leaks and the black fading.

Thanks for all the comments. So the total floor length, with the 3rd seat out and the 2nd seat folded all the way to the front is about 90 in?
