New Rearend

Okay so i blew my rear end on my truck for getting it stuck and im about to put in the shop to replace it and i was wondering what i should bump it up to. I want it a little faster and im not sure if the rear end will help a little. Its a 04 silverado ext cab 2wd 5.3 with the stock tranny with 20" wheels wrapped in 285/55/20 terra grappers. Should i stay with the 3.73 or will the 4.10 help it with the wheels and gain a little more speed? Not really sure how the gear ratio works. Thanks for the input guys!

With that size of tire, I'd certainly bump to 4.10's and even consider 4.56 depending on how you drive.

Will i lose a little fuel milage with the 4.10's?

Yes, you'll lose a little bit of fuel mileage, but I do not believe it will be that much, barely noticable. You'll get better off the line with a higher gear ratio, but top speed will be affected, but since its a pickup, there is no need to worry

Thanks for the info guys. Gave them the okay to order a 4.10 and i should have my truck back next week and can't wait!

With those tires, I would think lower gears could even help with mileage? Seems like it'd do better with lower gears and less gear hunting.

I agree. I think it would be the same....maybe even better because the engine isn't having to work as hard.

Well someone said 4.10s are good for the wheels I have but now it's the lower gears are better??
