My truck is 2wd . I put on winter tires and have not had a problem in a foot of snow. My steps on the side of the truck where pushing the snow. I do have about 300 pounds in the back . When I can afford a new truck again I will get a 4x4 tho. Before I got winter tires I would get stuck in the snow and that was not to fun.

i always say it depends on the tires you got...but before i got these tires which are still pretty bald my old tires were "showiing air" according to a jackass cop..

the tires in the picture are bald

Even though I live in snow country I haven't had a 4X4 for 35 years so when I ordered my new truck it was kind of a no brainer for me. I looked at the pricing and the NHT was about the same price as a 4X4 up grade. I just thought, what would I enjoy more? Four wheel drive that I may use once a year or 403 HP that I can use every time I stick the key in? The only down side is that I had to give a non refundable deposit and sign in three places that I would take the truck no matter what! Somehow the dealer didn't want to get stuck with it!

for me that would had been a red flag for me that he was that way with your truck...

ya know ive NEVER owned a 2wd.well ya i did but it was a 1955 international step side 4spd granny an straight six all original classic. looked like it came straight from the ol factory.except the cosmetic issues. but surprisingly it did not have all that much rust she was pretty solid....started right up and drove.i love big trucks an ya cant have a big truck without 4x4

Amazing how little one really "needs" 4WD when a tad bit of diligent, "common sense" driving is excercised. I'd have done, and wanted to do, what Mike did when shopping this truck until my wife pointed out Caltrans driving restrictions in snow due to most folks' lack of the aforementioned skills; hence 4WD for us. 2WD/chains don't always get past Caltrans, but 4WD will.

What is a Caltran ?

California Department of Transportation. They set the level of road/driving restriction according to weather and the CHP (California Highway Patrol) enforces them.

2 wheel drive is okay unless you never plan on goin off-road, around here a 2wd is completely useless. My buddy picked up a 2wd Dakota, put weight in the back and put studded tires on still useless on the highway in the winter. My truck didn't come out of 4wd from January till 2 weeks ago LOL

Oh and if you dont mind, what did you pay for that k5?

2wd chevs are allot better than 2wd dodges or ford . We have the G80 it locks both back tires compared to the limited slip in the dodge and ford 2wd .

G80 works "okay" until they blow up. They can't handle to much abuse, I've completely blown 2 up and smoked another. Nw the one in my truck I have now clutch packs are gone.

    • Well that book won't sell many copies. Taking ones right foot off the loud pedal never gets applause. Funny really, It isn't that people don't know what to do...they just don't want to do it. But they will complain about it. About bad craftsmanship, about the cost of fuel, about the cost of part and repairs and mainly they complain that the solution while still possible isn't one they are willing to do.    I observe this daily. 'Gas cost to much!", they wail, while they mat it passing at 80+ mpg and scoot down the road like gas cost a dime a gallon. Then complain about the few that will lift and save both fuel and iron like they are owed and own the road.    Good thing they haven't an ounce of influence on my equipment. The rest I just laugh at. Stupid is as stupid does, right Forest?
    • Today I filled up with 4.899 gallons of fuel at a cost of $4.899 a gallon. $24 bucks. 290 miles. 59.2 mpg. After my 4% COSTCO discount just under eight cents a mile.
    • Howdy folks,   Recently I pulled a heated steering wheel and clock spring out of a 2015 Sierra All Terrain (part numbers coming soon - will have to disassemble), and just installed it on my 2016 Sierra WT (as base model as it gets).   On install, I noticed that I’m missing the connector often tucked behind the dash for the heating element.     No problem… or so I thought.   I used an “Add-A-Fuse” at my heated steering wheel fuse location, which has voltage, but no wires. I ran it to the positive of the heated steering wheel (Violet/White), and took black to ground.   Hooked up the battery, turned the truck on - no heated steering wheel. No button backlights. Was pleased to see that my cruise control was working though.   Read a post suggesting reversing polarity, so I gave it a shot. Violet and White to ground, Black to power.    Aha! Heat! But I seemingly can’t turn it off AND still no backlights on any of the buttons.    Checked all fuses, everything is still in good order. I’m stumped.   Does anyone have any insight? If so, please share!
    • I'm about 1800 miles into my last oil change, and yesterday a message appeared saying oil life was at 77%. Not sure why it popped up but I think all of these electronics could be susceptible to solar flares or somesuch. I change my oil right at 3K each time, and that was the first time in 10870 miles that message came up. Strange thing is that it showed on the screen at all since I don't drive with that sort of info displayed on the DIC.
