Nav voice relies on Radio volume??

Tried piggybacking this question on another thread but didn't get an answer, so thought I would start a new thread.

Does the Radio volume have to be turned up for the Nav voice to be heard? I am currently driving a long trip (so far, BC, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado.....) and some areas have no radio coverage so only static is heard - it's a pain to have to continually search for a new station just to hear the Nav. Or sometimes I like to travel without a Radio playing all the time, but still like to hear the Nav give verbal directions.

Edit - Sorry, should have mentioned, I am referring to the OGM1 system.

Thanks doug_scott,

I actually haven't tried playing a CD yet, but I suppose it would work. However, I don't listen to CDs a lot. It might sound a little weird but I often drive hundreds of miles, especially on long trips, without radio or tunes playing (the noise just starts to bug me after awhile).

I read the manual and did some playing around with the unit and it seems the volume for the radio and the Nav can be semi-independent. You can turn the radio down to 1 (the manual states the radio has to be above zero for the Nav volume to work - weird) and then when the Nav voice is talking (must be talking - again weird), you can change the volume of the Nav. At least I think that's how it works. Not having had Nav before, I wonder if it is the same in other/OEM units?

I've also experienced issues with the volume of my turn signals, lights and seatbelt warning. I think they are also connected to the radio volume in some way as i.e occasionally there is no sound when I leave the lights on and turn off the ignition and remove the key - again, weird.
