I don't know of anywhere online, but I'm not saying there isn't a source like you are looking for.  I'd guess that markup is in the 7%-8% range, but that is just a guess.

Your best bet would be to go to Trader Online and look at the specific jetski you want to buy.  There will be several dealers selling new units on the site.  Their prices will vary, but you will find the lowest one.  Then ask your local dealer if he can match or come close to dealer "X" for price.

Try Kelley Blue Book when it comes back up.  I can't get to any of their sites right now.  Here is the link I came up with.  I remember using this when I traded in my Honda Foreman S for my Rubicon.

kbb atv, cycle and pwc page

Yeah, unfortunately it looks like you'll have to pay about $10 unless you really want to do some digging to get dealer cost on new models.  Kbb is only gonna help with used cost.

Thats going to be tough to find- for free that is. The only place I could find is www.pwccost.com, and it looks like they are invoice prices for tons of pwcs and motorcycles. Unfortunatly it looks like the charge $10 per model.

If your gonna be buying a SeaDoo let me know I know tons and am more than willing to help.  Just drop me a PM.

Good luck with whatever brand you go with.

Hey I didn't get a PM, so just ask me here.  It sounds like your looking at a sea doo.  Go to www.sea-doo.net  If you are buying a brand new one, sounds like you are, I highly recommend you buy it from Glen at PPG, a phone number is provided at that site.  IMHO they are the best dealership in the nation, and the prices are good also.

He is getting a few of the new SC 4tecs in next week I think.  I saw that down at the boat show yesterday, and it's really nice.  Almost makes me want to trade in my XP!

FireCadet,

What is this SeaDoo you speak of????  I got a chance to ride one of the demo SC 4Tecs and wasnt all to impressed.  Yea it had excellent low and mid-range but the top end just wasnt there.  You would be better of with your XP. Seriously!  Throw some R&D or Rossier heads and some carbs on that 951 and I gaurantee you will be having some fun!  If you want to take it a step further, hit up Factory Pipe and get one of their twin pipes!  That setup will truly put a smile on your face.

PullinPower,

I buy and sell skis that I buy from a source in central Kansas.  He gets them from dealer auctions throughout the US.  Most of the skis tend to be late model repo's.  Some are older model skis that need some work.  What exactlly are you looking for anyways??  Please dont tell me you want to buy a Yamaha!  Try to shy away from them.  The new GP's have catalytic converters on them that tend to plug at around 40hrs.  Either you can replace it or get a cat simulator.  That and the power valve design that Yamaha uses is something that could really use some improvement.  Either way, let me know what you might be looking for and I could maybe give you a little insight.  And I will let you in on a few secrets on how to deal with those "tards" at the dealerships!

Jared...man I wish I knew you had connections lol!!!  Ya I'm not to impressed by the 4tec, sc or not.  I rode a regular 4tec for a quick spin over the summer after a long ride with a bunch of guys, didn't like it.  It sounds so much different having a 4 stroke engine vs. a 2 stroke.  My XP is a 97 so I have the 787 engine, decided to get this instead of the 951, so no probs at all!!  I am thinking about getting the 03 XP DI, I'd love to have an all red XP next to my all yellow XP.  What kind of deals can you get on 99-00 XPs?  I just got a 17/22 skat trak swirl and am buying a R&D 85/88 nozzle for it.  Hydroturfs are going on shortly and I am putting on BH sponsons!

99Silver5.3 ,i was looking for the new FX140 from yami, but im open to them all, just trying to get a good deal on one and not get toasted if I decide to go with a new one. I would travel to buy a nice repo if you have any connections. Thanks for the help,im new to the pwc's,if it was a mastercraft ski boat I could hook you up if you needed one of those.

Firecadet,

The 4-strokes do sound way different!  Only bad thing is it wont have the balls that a 2-stroke has.  I wasnt too sure what year your XP was.  In my opinion the 787 has alot less problems than the 951.  I have had the liberty to deal with a few of them and to say the least.  No more!  I'll stick with Kawasakis for now.  I ride a 2000 Ultra and so far am very pleased with it.  It had quite a bit of power in stock form but after a few months of riding it, it just needed more.   :fume:   My buddy has a 2000 XP that is IMMACULATE he may sell here pretty soon.  Has maybe 20 hours on it.  I dont know how much but I can ask him.

Pullinpower,

Im not too familiar with Yamis new 4-strokes.  I do know that Hondas F-12 and F12x are sweet skis!  Theyre plenty fast and some Greddy and HKS performance parts will work on them I believe. (Boost controllers and such) Theres a guy somewhere in Florida that has put an HKS boost controller on his F-12x and it made it quite a bit faster.  As far as paying a lot for a new ski, there are a lot of dealerships that arent out to just plain stick you!  Another thing they will more than likely try to do is sell the ski with a trailer they provide. Which may be a Shorelandr or a Caravan trailer.  Your best bet is to look in your local paper to find a trailer.  That is if you want to do that.  There are times you can find a nice trailer in the paper cheaper than what the dealer will charge you for one.  SIngle place trailers can run anywhere from 200-600 bucks depending on make model and condition.  One other thing.  Do not EVER let a salesman tell you that ANY stock ski will do anywhere around 70 or 80mph!  That is a blatant LIE and a sales pitch!  Not even that new Yamaha GP1300r will do 70 stock.  The speedometers always lie.  I ride with a Garmin eTrex legend when I want to see how fast my ski will move.  I guess shoot me a PM or something and let me know what your looking for and a price you want to stay around and I'll try to do some calling for ya.

99Silver5.3 A FX140 at the dealer where we keep our boat at and he wanted 8500 with no trailer. Seems alittle steep to me,said it was his cost. This was on a leftover 02. Thanks again.

Hey I think I'm buying a 98XPL.  Ski is clean, motor was rebuilt with OEM parts by a friend of mine, this guy knows his stuff, about 50hrs on ski, 0 on motor hasnt been run in the water yet w/ the new motor.  Has prox w/ outerwears & rejetted carbs.  Can't wait to get it!

Why did the ski have to be rebuilt? After the carbs get adjusted and if it runs real good, yea that sounds good to me. Have you seen any tests on the FX140?
Posted

I have run inot alot of blown 951's or 951's on the verge of blowing.  The majority of the ones i have torn down had developed piston slap and started to score the living piss out of the cylinders.  And it sounds horrible while its running!  Matter of fact, a week ago I went to buy a 2000 Seadoo RX and it had the same horrible sound!  I took out a plug and looked into the cylinder with my borescope and to my utmost surprise the front cylinder was scoring on the side nearest the RAVE valve.  $3800 aint too bad!  Now shes got a strong engine in her.  You should get alot of hours out of that fresh rebuild, just take care of it.

PullinPower,

I havent heard much of the FX140.  If you want, head over to the Riva Yamaha board and see what some folks have to say.  I will get the web adress and post it bacause I cant remember it right now.

    • www.enginelabs.com/news/what-i-learned-today-bearing-clearances-vs-oil-viscosities/     www.enginelabs.com/news/oil-viscosity-can-the-numbers-be-misleading/ The Big Lie… Coming full circle to the reason Lake discusses the Porsche engines in particular. Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far.
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install.
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
