GMT-900 1500 to 2500 rear leaf swap

I know this has been done on the older GM trucks (GMT-800 and earlier) but I haven't see anybody do it with a newer GMT-900.

 

Can I take the rear leafs from a 2500 (GMT-900) and swap them on to my truck? Can I use the rear leafs from other years? I can pick up used leafs cheaper than air bags or helper springs from a local junk yard.

 

I know it will give me more lift so I would not put the factory block back in either. Are the 1500 and 2500 springs the same width too?
