Catalytic Converter will it come off?

My wife got a memo from someone where she works that there have been a rash of Catalytic Converters stolen from their parking lot during the day.

 

I was wondering if mine on my truck was welded or should I have it spot welded?

 

Anyone have theirs "Borrowed" ?

They can be cut off quite easily and quickly

it is welded on there and yea they can be taken off relativly easily...but if you catch the son of a bitch underneath your truck you can really wreak havoc on them!!! I wouldnt worry about it to be honest

all it takes is a battery powered sawzall (reciprocating saw), and a couple of minutes. Does not matter if it is welded on or not.

 

About the only thing I have seen that may help is making the location hard to get to. Basically make it hard to get the part out once it is cut off. I think I saw a cage type device online a while ago for this purpose. Basically you mount a cage made of hardened metal bars that surrounds the converter. You may be able to cut the converter off, but you can't get it off the car due to cage.

Basicly the same idea , make a skid plate that goes right were it is so it not easy to get, they will move to the next car

I agree with doug, a cordless sawzall and a metal blade is all it takes...4-5 mins an there off!
