It's a buyers market...  if you can afford the payments at 0% interest, it would be a smart move to step into a newer truck.  Otherwise, keep driving old "Betsy" until the wheels fall off.  If you decide to trade up to a newer truck, then you might be better off trying to sell your truck outright, because there is alot of used vehicles in dealer lots right now, and they won't give you very much for yours on trade...

Ditto with Shaners

Do you want something more...4WS...Crew Cab or you need more capacity 3/4-1 ton...

Otherwise keep what you have if your happy.  Past SBC 350's have easily gone 200K Miles with regular maintenance.  No reason the 5.3 can't.  A rebuild shouldn't cost more than $2000 even with a couple of hopups if and when the time comes.

Only other consideration, which you don't mention that you have, if your current truck is nickel n diming you right now.  Did a knob break, some little annoyance since day 1 is still there, or the AC just got fix ohh and now the brakes need to be replaced.....

I'd recon the dealer would offer between $12-14000

Almost traded in my 99 as well but decided to keep it, one less bill to worry about as its paid off.  Plus with less than 25000 miles and after getting new tires, want my moneys worth out of it.

Coworkers and friends say that the dealers are only offering within $500 of the "fair" condition trade-in value for their cars and trucks.

www.kbb.com

Example, last week a coworker wanted to trade his 96 Dodge Ram extended cab 4x4 5.9L with only 65000 miles, they offered $5600 for trade value.  He took a hard line with the dealer saying there are plenty of other dealers around and to offer the "Good" condition value of $9700.  After the manager to manager to just for you circus routine they agreed.

You'll have to fight for everything.

In the current market, for a vehicle in stock there is no reason to pay more than dealer invoice, still get the rebates and the "Good" value of your trade.

That 96 Dodge is now on the dealers lot for $15995.  They'll have a "GIGANTIC" used car blowout, eventually under pressure would markit down to $12795 and still make 20-25%

I'll agree with the others, if it's given you trouble-free service and meets your needs, it'll run.  If you've got the cash to move up into something now, then go for it, but do your homework on what you can sell yours outright for.  Take your time, it's a buyer's market.

So lemme get this straight:

You have a 2000 model truck, it has 90K miles on it, it runs good and has no major defects.... and you wanna what?

For starters: Do you own it free & clear?  If the answer is yes..KEEP IT!

Why?  Economics 101:  Automobiles are POOR investments.

If: I was your stock-broker, you gave me $25K today, and I invested it for you...and 2 years later it was down 50% or better (like my AMR stock)...  You'd shoot me!

That's what we are all doing when we buy a new truck.  Hey...I wanted one too ya know!

Your best bet is to keep that sucker until one of the following occurs:

#1 It no longer suits your needs

#2 The cost of repair exceeds the value of the vehicle.

#3 Your wife won't be seen in it because it's a heap.

I know this is sour advice for someone who wants a new truck and sees the 0% financing and $$$ rebates flying around but that's just the economics of the deal.

No matter what a bargain price you pay...you just about cannot beat a paid off truck with say another 70K miles left in it!

Only other way to get ahead....is to trade today and have her sling a rod tomorrow!

You answered you're own question when you said "I love my truck".  Considering the number of miles you put on per year, I wouldn't think about trading for two more years.  Unless you fall out of love, of course.

Yea but you would luv the new one more......there are great deals to be had on truckS right now......up here in Canada GM is having what's called "Ring In and Win". After you make a deal you call GM and you get $1000 minimum off...all the way up to winning the Car/truck....guy up here in Calgary got a Dennelli for free. $60,000.00 SUV. Great interest rates. 0%

You only live once.......go for it. That's my best pitch.....just kidding.  :uhoh:  :smash:
