Adding remote start

Is there a module in this kit that is required if you already have the ap8 code for remote start or can I just take the key fob I have that has the remote start button and program it to the truck? Dealer says this comes with 2 fobs and a module that has to be swapped out.

I don't know what year truck you have,but most kits are just two remotes and an unlock code that the dealer needs for when they call GM.

You can NOT just buy a remote and add the remote start,you need the kit because you need the unlock programming code.

There is no module that needs swapped out,its just a reprogram of the BCM. Although some years require a change of the hood latch.

Mine is an 09. I got them down a bit. 180+ tax on parts and 80.00 to install.

Yup that price sounds right. I had mine installed about 4 months ago. All that kit had was the 2 remote fobs and a card with the code like Rich said above. Really nice upgrade to my truck. Request the old fobs back when you get this done. The dealer wanted to keep mine and I sold them on ebay.

I had my dealer match the shipped price from GM parts direct and they charged me 1/2 hour labor. I called around for prices and the labor was all over the place which told me these other dealers either didn't do too many of these or they were trying to hustle me.
