Electronics IN 03 Trucks

So does anyone like the new electronics in the 2003 GMC Sierrras?  I personaly feel that GM tried a little too hard to get all the bells and whistles into there trucks and came up short.........

What do ya think

I'm somewhat disappointed in the DIC in particular.  I didn't get the redundant steering wheel controls so I am limited on what I can get from the DIC.  I really don't understand why they couldn't have made more of those functions available to those of us who didn't get the wheel controls.  My dad had a LeSabre that had pushbuttons on the dash that allowed you to toggle through various functions of the DIC.  I especially would have like to have had the fuel mileage/range information.

Kind've like what Pontiac did on the Grand prix.  Put a big display above the radio and make some crapy GM buttons so that you could controll the DIC?  How else whould you make it so that you could controll the DIC without the stering wheel controls?  Backward keyfunctions like in the old days??

:uhoh:   We'll I just think they went too far with it?  I mean mirrors that adjust if you put it in reverse???

WOW  another reason to spend an extra 2k.

Thanks  But I'll pass

I guess I lucked out. The truck I took off the dealers lot had the steering wheel controls ($125 option). I disabled the "curb view" mode first thing. Is it possible that the DIC can be managed thru the radio controls?

all the extra crap is one of the things I really liked about the truck compared to the ford and dodge I was looking at that didn't have nearly all the extras, and for more

Well Cowboy I'll be honest, I wanted steering wheel controls but couldn't locate one with the color and other equipment I wanted.  Steering wheel controls are the perfect way to control those functions, but there wasn't one available, so I was out of luck.  As far as crappy GM buttons, the ones on my dad's LeSabre were nice, easy to operate and did not require optional equipment to get something that's already built into the instrument cluster.  So in other words if I had crappy buttons I could a least use whats in there.  Frankly the '03 is a better than my '01 in many areas so I'm not that upset.  I've had several GM products and so far this one has impressed me with its quality and extras.

I guess I should clarify a little...............

I'm not saying GM makes crappy stuff, I mean I did buy a brand spankning new 2002 GMC Sierra truck and I traded my 2000 GMC Sierra truck for it........  So I believe they make a good product.  It just seems like everytime some car manufacture comes out with more electronic gadgets there is more to go wrong and less the consumer can do about it.........  Back in the old days when I had my 3/4 Ton 84 GMC Sierra I could fix dang near everything on that truck without ever having to hook up a computer.  Know on the new  ones you can do all the diagnosis with  computers and they keep building thoose darn special tools......

So I guess my concern is that did they get all the bugs worked out of it?  So that is why I stayed with the 02.  When we start seeing all the TSB's on it I will be happy that I bought my 02..  If not great they did something right on the first try.......  Ford still hasn't gotten a-lot of things right.  However they've gotten some stuff right that GM can't figure out either..... :uhoh:
