2013 GMC Sierra 2500HD steering box part number

Does anyone have access to 2013 part numbers.

My 2 week old 2013 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4x4 Ext cab SLT Duramax has

developed a pin hole leak in the upper part of the steering gear box. Dealer

and GM working on locating another steering gear box. I would like to know

if the 2013 steering gear box is the same as on the 2012 or if its a different

number and design all together? Dealer is not sure if the parts are the same as 2012

or when the part will be available and the truck is just parked right now. Not a good feeling.

If your dealer can't tell you for sure what parts will match or not, then you need to find a better dealer. A dealer should be able to pull up a 2012 and a 2013 and compare numbers real easy I'd think. Just thinking out loud...so to speak (or type that is).

You would think so wouldn't you but apparently thats not the case. Next dealer is quite a distance away plus this one has already

started the process or work order. I would just like to find out myself so that I will know what is actually happening and that I get the

right part. Maybe someone on the forum has access and could help me out.

I know this is not a common problem at least I hope not but this is what I found out this morning.

Called GM customer service they said part number of 2013 steering gear is 22923379 and is unique to 2013.

I thought that was interesting wonder what improvements have been made?

Dealer says same part fits 2011 and 2012 but it may not be the latest updated version. Anyone know for sure?

I know the Diesel is different than the gasser.

All you would need is a VIN from a 2012 truck to get the part number easily. These days the parts departments can't find part numbers without a VIN. Pretty sad actually, manufacturer is making things so much more difficult than it needs to be. Every part seems to be tied into every option now.
