6.2 Exhaust

The mufflers on these 6.2's are actually not really restrictive. Someone did a flow meter test and found them to be not restrictive. If you decide to add a catback or just the muffler, it will be mainly for earcandy. That being said, I added a magnaflow. Sounds better than stock imo.

I have been following this thread, thinking about a couple cat back exhaust systems part 15573 from magnaflow or 817603 from flowmaster. I do like the replies explaining how much cheaper it is just replacing the muffler. The thing I am looking for is some awesome sound; If I just replace the muffler will I be getting a much better sound than stock or am I just wasting my money? would a cat back system sound better than just replacing the muffler? Sorry a lot of questions at once.

You will get a better sound from a cat back or just simply swapping the muffler. If you swap the muffler make sure you get a 3.5". Stay away from Flowmaster.

Backpressure is a myth and you DON'T Want it. What you want is exhaust velocity and 3" is actually restrictive on these motors esp...boosted.

I have to disagree, it's no myth. If you are running a drag car no mufflers is great. I had a mustang that basically had straight pipes on it and I lost low end power. Switched to a different muffler and got the power back.

On my 5.3 I ran my truck with no muffler till I got my Borla welded on and again I lost low end power. Borla muffler brought the power back.

OP, I just did a muffler swap on my 5.3 and have no regrets. If you feel the need to spend the money on a catback then go ahead. I went with Borla. Like Chawkins said, stay away from flowmaster. They used to sound good, but IMO they sound like pure crap now.

i have to say that after my truck being tuned, the exhaust definitely had a different note to her. From all things being read, and watched on you tube, I think with these trucks, the simplest and most overall best bang for the buck, is the muffler swap, which I will be doing in the spring. I researched the Corsa, which is a 3" vesrsus the stock 3 and a half, produces a whopping 7 hp increase. So in my opinion, is an awful lot of cash for a different sound!!! I noticed that Borla has a 3 and half inch oval muffler, which could be a nice touch, without breaking the bank.

An improperly configured and sized exhaust will always lose performance over something more acceptable. Scavenging and flow velocity are key things you want to look at. I just took the resonator off of my stock exhaust. Very cheap and it gives it a bit more sound then stock, also gives it a bit of crackle on decal. If your considering doing a cat-back or just muffler swap I would consider this first as it is much cheaper.

just noticed that i needed to clarify....the corsa was a catback system at a cost of 1400 bucks and according to their own brochure increased the horse by 7!!
