GM Factory lug nuts

Are all GM factory lug nuts the same? I have a set of factory CK988 wheels and I'm thinking about changing to a set of new 2012 Texas Edition rims that don't come with lug nuts. Can I use my old ones?

I know their are at least 2 kinds. My wifes denali has lugnuts for rims that are behind a cover. My sierra has lugnuts that are exposed. They look different. The threads are the same.

All the chrome lug nuts are the same I think. When I was getting em only one style came up. If it's size you're asking about they're all the same.

You just put those rims on, you thinking about changing all ready? Truck looks great as it is!

Would yours fit on your wife's? Behind the cover?

No... With her lugnuts you can see the end of the stud. My chrome exposed lugnuts dont show the stud. They are not all the same.

I mean the thread is the same. Mine stick out further.

Do both of the rims your talking about have exposed lugnuts? If so, they should work. If one of the wheels have a center cover that hides the lugnuts than the exposed style nuts (which are longer) may not fit behind the cover.

Does not matter if you have the big chrome cap that covers all the nuts and the hub, or if you have the nuts with individual covers. For example, if you have the standard 17 inch wheel that comes on every 1500 series (not LTZ or SLT model) 2 wd truck since 2005, it comes with a cap that covers all the nuts and the hub. It is held on with the 6 plastic nuts that are in the cap, that screw onto the external threads of the lug nuts. The optional 17 inch aluminum wheels, that have the nuts exposed, also use the same lug nut as the standard steel wheel, but instead of one large cap, they use one cap per nut, that is screwed on to the lug nuts, using the same external threads that the big cover uses.

The only different nuts would be fully chromed, metal lug nuts, that do not use a cover. And even those will work as long as they are from a 1500 series GM truck, that has factory wheels on it.

If they are not factory nuts, then you need to be careful about the seat part of the nut. Factory wheels use a 60 degree tapered seat. Some aftermarket wheels use a 45 degree tapered seat lug nut. You should not use a 45 degree tapered seat when the wheel uses a 60 degree tapered seat. Steel wheels are more forgiving of seat taper than aluminum wheels. There are also lug nuts that have a shank and washer on them. Do not use these unless you have aftermarket wheels that require them.

Doug, I have the fully chromed metal lug nuts that do not use a cover. They are GM factory. You are saying these will work with a cover?

If the nuts have an open end on them, and threads on outside, then they will work with the covers with the plastic nuts in them. The full chrome nuts, that are not open ended, do not have the threads on the outside. What factory wheels do you have that come with chrome lug nuts?

I have CK988 wheels. I don't think they are going to be compatible.

Where can I buy a set of lug nuts that will work with the Texas Edition rims?

I've had three oem styles. Oem exposed chrome lugnuts, oem exposed lugnuts with plastic covers, and the oem lugnuts that fit behind covers that cover all lugnuts as one piece (those are same as lugnuts with plastic covers). I bought oem off eBay.

Why would you switch from the rims you show on your truck now to the chrome clad Texas Edition wheels? The ones you have look good. Don't do it.

I'm not happy with them. Every time I look at the truck, I have to convince myself that they look good. I think I am going to be happier going with the new Texas Edition rims. Plus, I'm going to be able to turn a profit on the old rims, which is always nice.

I think another part of it is I've been working landscaping all summer as a summer job, and the parking lot every morning is loaded with trucks covered in chrome with big chrome rims, and I keep thinking my truck looks like one of theirs! The Texas Editions are definitely more conservative, which I like.
