Instrument panel lights will not fade to black

It has been a pet peeve ever since I purchased my '09 Silverado, but it seems a little bit like a trivial complaint, so I have never said anything about it here. My dimmer adjustment dial for the dashboard lights only dims the lights to a point at which they seem inordinately bright, especially when driving in a rural area. I prefer to have very dim dashboard lights but mine simply will not get very dim.

Is this a normal occurrence, and I am sounding a bit strange, or is something wrong?

Mine will dim some but not fade to black either. Somebody probably sued when they were going 100mph and wrecked out or blew the engine and blamed GM because they could see their gauges. I think my '07 may have dimmed a bit more but I'm not certain.

I believe they are all like this now. My 2003 would black out the dash, this truck just insists on staying lit. It's very annoying when driving to my hunting camp at night on the logging roads when there in no moon in the sky. The gauges reflect off of my windows making it difficult to see where the next turn is or if there is an animal ready to jump in front of the truck.

Yes, My 09 is the same way. I cannot get the lights to go dark, they only dim.

Must be some liability issue.

I remember my 64 Chevelle Super Sport and my 83 GMC S-15 used to go dark. That was kind of neat.

Gone are the good ol days. :nonod:

This made me laugh. Too bad it seems to be the way it is, so maybe I will try to figure out a workaround....
