Making OEM Rearview Camera work

Ok, I picked up my 2012 Sierra Z71 yesterday and for the life of me I can't figure out how to make the Rearview camera work. I have the non-nav system so it is supposed to show up in the Rearview mirror.

 

The manual says to hold the button on the mirror until the light comes on then it should work. I've toggled the light on and off a few times and I get nothing when I put it in reverse. I can't find any menu option in the system settings that deals with it.

 

I have verified that the system was installed and I do have the camera on my tailgate.

If it is an OEM installed option, the picture should appear in the rearview mirror when the truck is put into reverse. You may have a problem with the truck. If it is still under warrenty, I would take it back to the dealer and have it checked out.

Yea, I was hoping I was doing something wrong. The truck only has 500 miles on it.

weird I didn't even know it could be turned off. i would just go back and see what they say

You shouldn't have to press and hold the button down. You should only have to press and release. By pressing and holding the button you are turning on/off the autodim mode.

I was just at the dealer. They couldn't make it work either. I guess I'll have to book it into service next week.

When you put the truck in reverse does the green indicator light flash on the mirror?

 

Also sounds silly but is the connector locked tight behind the rear license plate? This is where the disconnect is at incase someone had removed tailgate.

Yes, the light does flash when i put it in reverse. I will check the connector.

You nailed it man! Both connectors were disconnected behind the license plate. Works great now. Thanks a million!!

How is the picture with the display in the rearview mirror? Can you possibly post a picture of the display with the camera on?

 

I believe my truck came with the mirror but it didn't come with the camera. If I look at the rearview mirror at the right angle in the sunlight, I can see what look like an inset screen.

 

Just looking to see if the picture quality is good and is useful for backing up, etc since the screen is nowhere near the size of the nav display.

Above is the picture you requested. The OEM Camera Mirrors were not installed until 09. The mirror is larger and rectangular and can be seen in the For Sale/Wanted Section as I have one currently listed. The monitor in the mirror is very high quality and gives a great image!!
