Abs and Brake lights come on while driving.

Hey everyone, for the last year and a half or so the abs and brake lights on my 99 silverado will come on after driving it a little while. Before they would not come on for a week and then some weeks they light up all the time which is why i never did anything about it but now it lights up pretty much everytime I drive it. I had my buddy scan it and the code c0265. I googled the code and found out it has something to do with a relay circuit and loss of communication. I'm wondering what the code means for sure and if anyone else has had the same problem and what can be done to fix it.

Thanks,

Nick.

Probably a brake light switch. Easy fix. Cheap part. Its the plug that is connected to the brake pedal.

This is actually a common problem from what I've discovered. Do a search and you'll get tons of information. The most common source is a bad ground to the module controller. It's grounded in the inside of the frame near the driver-side door. Mine came on last night when hitting a bump in the road.

I looked at the link you gave me above and I still think the module is bad inside. I did some research and found out about module master that rebuilds abs modules for 150 bucks. Has anyone ever used them before? It seems like a pretty good deal compared to spending close to 1,000 bucks for a new module. Only problem I'm gonna have is getting the module off the pump. I live in Iowa and the torx bolts look to be rusted pretty good. But what can you expect from a 99 thats seen winter roads every year. Looks like I might have to undo the brake lines and take the whole pump off the frame to get the module separated from the pump. Anyone else had this tough of problem getting the module off?

Thumbs up on ModuleMasters.

Just went through this on mine. 13 years and 163k miles before the module completely failed. I took it to the local dealer for diagnostics - not only was the module failing diagnostics, but so was the pump. On went the ebay special, but its module was dead too! So, off to Modulemasters it went. Less than a week later, I had it back. Got it installed a day or 2 later and no more brake lights. 5 year warranty on the rebuild and I still have the original module just in case.

would this cause like a pulsing feel on the pedal just before u stop, cause mine is doin that, i havent had it scanned yet but the abs light came on almost once a day for like two weeks then hasnt been back since but the pedal thing bugs me its like hitting a patch of ice just as u come to a complete stop thankfully i dont live in the city so not too many short stops. o i have a 2004 gmc sierra 5.3 4x4 crew 105k mi

I've never had the pedal pulsate on my truck before stop. I think in time I will take mine to the dealer and have them take a closer look to tell me exactly what is wrong. My lights have been coming on for at least a year and a half but now they come on everytime I drive the truck.

This may be the low speed ABS activation that has plagued Chevy's and GM's. The ABS will activate while you are braking and get down to 5 mph or so. It has to do with corrosion building up under the Wheel Speed Sensors on the front wheel hubs, causing a bad signal to the ABS system.

There are a number of posts on this, but basically, after checking the front wheel speed sensors, you can remove, clean the mounting surface and re-install.

    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
    • Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
