schlegle1 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hello, I was just wondering if someone could answer this for me real quick as all of the information ive found online is kind of vague. I just purchased the GMX550 Lock-pick for my truck in order to utilize the iPod connections it has, however i was wondering if this unit would also be able to be used in place of my line-output converter? i.e. I currently have a line-output converter installed behind my nav unit in order to run an amplifier in my truck, but can the GMX550 do the same thing as the line-output converter as well? Therefore allowing me to remove my current line-output converter and have the lock-pick do everything?
hzhardy Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 No but if you have a Bose head unit you can solder Rca connector on what would normally be the speaker wires as the Bose uses a low level signal just like your preout in a aftermarket unit to feed the Bose amp.
schlegle1 Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 so with all the things that the Lockpick GMX550 is capable of, it cant be used as a Line-output converter? That seems odd since it has the connections for everything from DVD players all the way to side view cameras.
hzhardy Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 From what I understand it only handles source inputs and video out for monitors

The GMX-550 only provides inputs TO the factory navi, not outputs FROM the factory navi...
schlegle1 Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 Ok, i guess i have one more question for you guys. I just installed the Lock-pick in my truck and i ran into a little snag. I hooked everything up according to the instructions, ran the iPod chord to my glovebox, and put everything back together. The unit plays the iPod, and the front of my iPod displays "iPod Connected" on the front w the apple logo, and it allows me to use the steering wheel controls. But it wont display the iPod menu on the screen nor will it play any videos from the iPod or anything. Ive tried using several different iPods with it but still none of them display on the screen. Im like pulling my hair out trying to figure this thing out so if anyone could help it would be great. Thanks!

If not, your deck won't be capable of displaying any iPod video w/o being programmed for backup camera input. The GMX550 uses the camera input and will display the warning at the top of the screen on all video displayed on it...
schlegle1 Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 not even the ipod menu? Thats my main concern, i cant get it to display the menu for the iPod on screen...

Do you have the camera input enabled on the navi? If not, you will have no display, not even the iPod men, because the GMX550 takes over the rear camera display on the navi to display everything it does. If the rear camera display has not been programmed into your navi, there is nothing for the GMX-550 to take over. You have to take it to a dealer and have them program the navi to enable the rear camera input. Should cost about $75.
schlegle1 Posted September 29, 2012 Author Posted September 29, 2012 ok so if i take it to the dealer and tell them i just need them to activate the rear camera input on my nav system they'll know what to do from there? Im assuming using the tech II scanner to do so? and can i leave my lockpick and everything hooked into the system? or will it interfere with the programming?
