How much HP/Torque is Lost with Straight Pipe?

Recommended Posts

I have an 8.1L and cut off my mufflers. I put some pipe in where the mufflers are and have the pipes going straight out the back. It actually sounds really good with a low aggressive tone. No cackle or rasp just a nice deep rumble. How much HP/Torque is lost by just doing straight pipe like that? It still has the cats. I like the way it sounds just the way it is but dont want a huge loss in performance. Is it enough to worry about or minimal? Thanks

You won't lose any HP, because on a gasser HP is made in upper Rpm range. What you will probly lose (probly not noticeable with BBC) is a little bit or low end torque due to a loss of back pressure. Minimal tho.
