Want to upgrade stick tires 2006 gmc sierra

I have 2006 gmc sierra sle quad cab 2wd with stock size tires 245/70/17. I have a chance to get a great deal on bf goodrich all terrains 285/70/17. I know I will need to lift the truck a bit to fit the tires on the front but my question is will this decrease gas mileage and screw up other things (shift points, brakes, speedo, etc) or can I get the dealer to reset the ecm. Is this a good idea to upgrade from 245 to 285, or is this just plain stupid?? I know it sounds dumb on a 2wd truck, but I keep slipping at the boat launch when getting my 22ft bay boat out of the water. And it rides too low in the back when I hook the boat up. Plus I know the bigger tires will look better!! Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

like you said you have to get a leveling kit for the 285's to fit. i would definatley get the 285's if your getting a good deal on. they might make the mpg's worse by 0.3 mpgs and you shouldnt notice much difference in the power depending on what gears you have. wont screw up the brakes, the speedo might be 1mph off. 285's will also help at the boat ramp, with more rubber on the ground, the more traction you'll get.

i run 285's on my truck and wouldnt go back to anything smaller.
