Whats the best upgrade for the allison, When making over 450HP

the price i put together from jegs was $1958.. for 4;56 gears front and back with install kits, And a detroit locker posi unti "tru trac"

Its not cheap with the 11.5 ring gear..

The tru-trac is only a limited slip I believe

I had one in my 2002, it worked awesome. Plus it didn't blow up twice like the precious g80's...the downside - rear tires wore out quicker

Sierra35008.1, What kind of fuel mileage are you getting with the Raylar components on your 8.1? I was considering the same items but started leaning towards putting a Duramax in it. I'm getting 12.5 - 13 mpg now, with 3:73's & a 4L80E, after a Fast Chip tune, 4" Cat Back and Volant CAI ( CAI didn't do a thing either HP or MPG). We had a guy over in TN put dual turbo's on a 8.1 and it made some crazy power........but it blew up. Anyways, I just think it's gonna be tuff to ever get a gas motor to perform like a deisel for towing and still have respectable fuel mileage. Thanks!!

off topic question about this post, I want an allison in my truck bad. I have a 6.0 regular cab long box and is it possibled to snag an Allison from a wrecking yard and bolt it up into my truck? I have the 4L80E

No its not that easy, first off the allison will not fit in your transmission tunnel unless you put a 2" body lift on as the trucks with the allison sit 2" higher off the frame then the normal 2500 set-up, you would need all the computers for the allison and I believe the output shaft for the allison is bigger so it wont bolt up to your 6.0. You would need to fab transmission mounts and a driveshaft. If it were that easy like a simple bolt up alot of people would be doing it.

that makes sense. I was just curious my buddy has a 08 GMC 2500hd with a 6.0 and he has the allison but those trucks are way different than my 04. i was hoping itd match up that would be pretty nice.

The only trucks that came with the allison are 8.1,s and duramax... the newer body stlye trucks are d-max only...

Right, The Allison never came with the 6.0 so the answer is no that your buddy has a Allison in his 08 6.0.

The 6.0 honestly doesnt make enough Pwr or Torque to require an allison.. The 4l80/85E are great tranny,s

Their 5 to 6 speed upgrade means no towing in 6th in tow-mode. Just FYI.
