Great question. All they usually do is take your VIN number and tell you to call your local dealer.

That actually is not true, they will actually go to a few resources with your concern i.e. GM TAC and reply with an answer. Not all concerns can be provided a clear answer without proper diagnostics tho

Why I ask is because I asked "Tricia" a question about a GM product and got a strange, almost computer-like response.

Something you can look into.

I have a 2007 regular cab GMC 1500 (GMT-900) that came with a stock CD player.

I installed it in a 2011 crew cab CHEVROLET (GMT-900) and it displays locked.

2 dealers told me nothing can be done, I find information contrary to that. Maybe you can find the procedure for unlocking the radio with the tech 2? Or tell me how to direct the service department into learning how to do this?

Unfortunately, I do not have information that would relate to this kind of aftermarket alteration made to the vehicle. I am not a mechanic and would not be able to advise further. I apologize for the inconvenience.

This is not an after market application this is a stock CD player that I gave my friend out of my truck. I was looking for the procedure to unlock it because GM has lock codes on their radios. Don't worry, we found the answer at our third dealership we went to.

Yup that is one of those Grey area questions, because technically it is modifying the vehicle and GM doesn't allow assistance in modifications. Usually directed more towards aftermarket but like I said grey area

My guess: real person, but they have a set of boiler plate answers for stuff that they can't help with. Saves typing. My opinion is that the gal is real, but is probably a "help desk" employee. It's great that GM is even trying. I spent a lot of time on a Toyota forum when looking at the Tundra, and there is *zero* support from Toyota corporate there. What they do have, however, is the ability to post service bulletins, etc., without Toyota threatening them. We used to have that here, until GM threatened the owners for copyright. I've been able to find full parts/assembly diagrams on our Sienna. That's great, but of course... it means that I *needed* those diagrams because something broke.

when did this happen? Why would GM do that? Make it harder?

GM does monitor the forum and it is a legit user. They also monitor the camaro forum I am on.

GM customer service for a radio unlock? Good God. Just go to Youtube or Google it and they will tell you how to unlock your radio yourself in about 5 minutes.

Doesn't work that way did you not fully read my post and guy at the dealer needs numbers off the radio and uses a tech 2. 2 dealers said its not possible and 1 tried telling me gm changes radios every year or 2 to prevent this. Good god is right, just glad I found a dealer who has technicians who know their product

try this>>> GM DELCO THEFTLOCK RADIOicon1.png UNLOCK CODE:

1. Press and hold presets 2 and 3 for about 5 to 10 seconds until you

get 3 digits on your display. This is the first 3 of 6 digits you will

need, so write 'em down.

2. After doing step one and writing down the code, immediately press

the

AM/FM button to get the last 3 of the 6 numbers you'll need, and write

'em down. (if you wait too long between steps 1 and 2 and the LOC code

displays again, just start over).

3. Call this number, it's a prerecorded message, so don't worry about

having to talk to anyone... 1-800-537-5140. The voice will ask if

you're

calling for Chevyicon1.png, Pontiac, Cadillac, etc... When you here him tell

you

to press "2" for Pontiac, press 206010 and hit the # key. He'll ask

you

for the 6 digit code that you've written down. Enter that and press

the

* key. He will then give you a code, and the option to get additional

4

digit codes, but one should be sufficient.

4. Follow the normal procedure in your owners manual for unlocking the

radio with your new code...press the hour set button on your radio

until

you get the first two numbers of the code, then press the minute set

button until you've entered the last two numbers. Immediately press

the

AM/FM button once the correct code is entered and the code SEC or

"secured" will be displayed on the display screen. Now, just turn the

radio on, and your ready to roll.

There is an additional step you can take to remove all codes from the

radio and start from scratch by entering your own personalized 4 digit

code so that it won't get you in a pickle again! Just repeat step 4

and

you should get a display screen that reads ---. This means the code is

out, and you can now program your own code. Of course, once you

receive

the 4 digit code from the GM recorded message, just keep it in a safeicon1.png

place, because you can use that same code again and again should you

have any more problems with it in the future. Good luck, and yes, it

does work.

I work in the "Dealership" world though not for G.M. We get this request a lot and unfortunately with newer cars and all the electronic wizardry it is usually a no go. On one vehicle I looked into it would have required changing the B.C.U. [body control module] which would have resulted in changing other modules as well so everything would communicate. And even then we couldn't guarantee it would work afterwards if they had even opted to spend the crazy dollars required. Other times software becomes an issue as well. They just aren't simple radios anymore I'm afraid, sad but true.

    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
    • That's good to know, but I don't think I'll even be running them under 45 in the rear  unless it's on the sand or something but will only be for a short distance anyways!    I didn't read all the instructions in the booklet yet, but do you know let's say I set the rear psi on the placard to 45, will the warning light come on soon as it drops under 45 or is there a percentage it has to drop from the set value before the warning light is triggered?
