2011 Silverado Heater Core Bad

So I got in my truck to get to work this morning after I warmed her up and the interior smelled of antifreeze. So as I drove the windows went getting fogged up so I had to keep wiping them to see out. Ended up at the dealer and they said I need a new heater core-6 hour job. Luckily I'm under warranty but is this common? The truck is a year and a half old with 15k miles and I'm like WTF?! I've seen these things go bad in way older vehicles but on a new truck? I hope this isn't a sign of things to come. :shakehead:

Anyone else had similar issues with your rig?

I had it at the dealer last week for a bad tire pressure sensor and now this. Crossing my fingers I didn't end up with a lemon!

No, this is not normal. It is however to be expected with these parts being continuously outsourced and quality control being marginal. Someone in Mexico had a bad day while soldering your heater core.

This is why they put warranty on things. Someone has to get the one that is going to fail. Doubt anyone solders heater cores anymore. Most likely a failed crimp joint between plastic tank and aluminum core.

I haven't seen one go bad in a GMT 900 I was waiting for one to go bad at my site to see how they are done. First I've heard of one going bad.

This was my comment yesterday (on the duplicate thread that has since ben locked):

Maybe it was just a "BAD" connection issue, and not an actual failing heater core???

A GM tech would get paid to "R&R" a heater core if this was the case- Just to get at the source of the problem.

When you pick up your truck (after the reapir is completed), check & see if a GM "warrantied part" is billed out on the repair order. :happysad:

Sometimes bad parts get installed at the factory. My truck came with a bad power steering pump. It was replaced by the dealer under warrenty a month after buying the truck. No big woop. Aggervating, yes. But it happens.
