Need Help with Offsets

I'm considering the possibility of new rims for my 09 Silvervado. I would normally just look up the same setup, but i dont' know of anyone else running this size tire on this set up and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on offset. Currently i still have no rubbing at all from these tires, but they look skinny and sometime silly cuz of it. There is a swap meet twice a year near me and they sell rims at wholesale prices, thinking maybe a wider rim will push the sidewalls of the tire out a little and make it look not so ridiculous.

i forgot to add that if i am able to do new rims, i'll be looking for probably 10" wide rims

Find the most positive offset you can find. That will keep you tucked and keep you from rubbing. The more negative the offset, the wider the stance, but the more possibility of rubbing you will have. You should be fine with a +18 or a +12. You MIGHT get by with a 0, but dont quote me on it. I know that a lot of guys with the 800 series can run a similar setup to yours with a -12.

Good luck finding a lot of 10" wides in a positive offset, and expect to rub. Are you running stocks currently ?

yeah, theyre the stock chrome clad rims, which i think measure 8.5"

 

do you think its gonna be a big challenge to find rims this size? how bad do you think it'll rub?

No sir, they're 7.5" wide. Your tires being BFGs are probably more like a 33 x 11, since BFGs typically run smaller than most others, so that helps with the prospect of 10" wides. The 'problem' with 10" wides in your case is the rarity of nice looking wheels in that width that are positive offset. The typical offset for those wheels is -24 which equates to roughly 4.56" backspacing. That means you are adding 2.5" in width and pushing them waaay out compared to your 17" stockers. That will cause you some issues. With that said, you should be able to pull this off if you're willing to trim. You might get by with cutting plastic and some massaging here, but don't stroke out if you have to cut a little metal.

I'd try a 17x9 rim with a positive offset, like +18 mm. For comparision, if you're running stock 17" rims, they are 17x7.5 with +31 mm offset.

hmm....ok, thanks guys, this has helped a lot. i had thought my rims were 8.5", but seeing as how theyre not, 9 inch wide may be a better choice.

 

and according to the calculations, my BFG's should (in theory) measure 34", their website says something like 33 7/8", but either way theyre big enough for me lol

Measure them mounted on the truck and they won't come anywhere close to that spec. They are also well known for running less true to size than other makers.
