I have disassembled the valvetrain before and found everything (the rocker arms and pushrods, especially) to be extremely worn and in need of replacement.

 

Who knows, though, an exhaust leak may have popped up!

How many miles? I've been around 5.3s with 300k+ and not had the valve trains make thtat kind of noise. I've seen where people thought a "tick" they were hearing just had to be valve train when it was exhaust leak

4.8 with 320k. The valvetrain is junk..egg shaped pushrods, rocker arms are extremely sloppy, and I'm sure the springs are tired. I'm going to put a used set of heads on it once the weather warms up. Its not so much a tick..it sounds like someone is shaking a maraca (cyl. #2).

Ok I dont see the reason behind this thread, a video is posted of the noise and you already know what the problems is. Is this help for the noise or just letting people know you have this noise in the motor?

It'll be cheaper to spend $125 for a set of pushrods and heads than to rebuild mine. Since I'll only be keeping it for a couple more years, a 100k set of heads will do just fine.

 

txab, I've owned it since 250k. Not sure what type of oil was ran beforehand. Since I've owned it, the truck has seen nothing but AmsOil.

Bet it was neglected a little in it's first 250k. As I said I'm around 5.3 with 300k up and no noises like that. But they have meticulously maintained from day one. How do you do on oil between changes? Original 4l60e trans?

I just had the trans rebuilt (pretty stout) a few thousand miles ago. I go about a year between oil changes...usually works out to 5-7k miles per oil change. I always give the truck a couple minutes of warm up time before I take off, but time and wear take place over that amount of time and mileage.
