Not even going to go to the floor for a vote. Things should get bakc to normal really quick.

Assault weapons ban dropped from Senate gun control bill Published March 19, 2013

The leader of the Democrat-controlled Senate on Tuesday dropped a proposed assault weapons ban from the chamber’s gun-control package – dealing a blow to supporters of the ban, though it could still come up for a vote.

The sponsor of the measure, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., revealed that Reid told her the proposed ban would not be in the initial package. Feinstein said she's "disappointed" with the decision, and is expected to nevertheless offer it as an amendment.

But the move by Reid to cut it from the main bill signals a lack of congressional support for a proposal that would not only revive, but strengthen, the decade-long ban that expired in 2004.

The proposed ban passed out of committee last week along with three other measures. The other three dealt with providing more school safety aid, expanding federal background checks on potential gun buyers and helping authorities prosecute illegal gun traffickers.

Feinstein has led the gun-control charge since President Obama called for federal legislation in the wake of the Newtown and other mass shootings.

Good. Democrats don't want to lose their job over this.

But most Dem's are seeing the light and know they wont get re-elected if they vote to ban our guns. I do agree with a stricter background check though

Don't get over confident and become complacent. Keep the heat on them!

The article I read said that it isn't going to be the main bill, but they may add it as an amendment to a different bill that does go to the floor for debate, like the one being proposed to crack down on straw purchases (for all the good that will do since its already against the law). One article also said that nationally in 2010 they only prosecuted 66 out of over 76,000 people that failed the background check. Reid has asked for data on how much they are enforcing existing laws since there isn't much point in even entertaining new laws if they wouldn't be enforced better than current ones.

All I know is in my county Feinstein was heavily voted against. I despise her and Barbara Boxer. But living in a republican county in a democratic state just means our votes dont count.

That is exactly why there is no need to make more restrictions. If you aren't going to enforce the current laws why make new ones? Doesn't make sense does it?

It was dropped because there was no way it could pass and they knew it. This stuff is about total control of the people, and the people are mot having it. We will no longer stand for our rights being taken away by these liberal nuts.

It was dropped in hopes of getting the rest of the bill passed. As I understand it, the "Universal Background Check" which sounds reasonable to most people is actually universal gun and gun owner registration which is much more damaging and dangerous than the "Assault Weapons Ban" part. So I think this is just a diversion to get what they really want - the holy grail of gun control - gun registration.
